INTRODUCTIONAcademic and Research skills are all about the strategies and activities that are applied tolearning. It assists an individual in becoming a more effective learner and also helps in personalgrowth and development. These are an array of skills that gear the procedure of organising &acquiring new knowledge, retaining that or dealing with assessment (Ahn, 2012). Learning ofacademic skills boosts ability of an individual to learn, retain & recall information that helps ingrowth for long term. The report covers assessment of own strengths and weaknesses so that selfimprovements can be made. SMART targets are set and an academic research is carried out inorder to finding out improvement areas. At last, personal development plan is formulated whichdiscusses about progress and further required actions for improvements. TASK 1Assessment of own strengths and weaknessesAssessment of own strengths and weaknesses is very necessary for improving my weakareas. It also helps in my personal as well as professional development that supports me in myfuture career growth. Understanding of strengths & weaknesses makes it easy for me todetermine the areas I need to work upon. For this, I assess my skills and weaknesses which aredefine below: Strengths Weaknesses Team working is one of my strength that helpsme in my own development. It enhances myknowledge regarding diverse areas and I getto learn many new things each day. My thisability helps me in building effective teams andworking with full coordination andcooperation. The best thing about teamworking is that it assists in improvingknowledge and skills of not only me but my team members also. It helps me in finishing mywork on time with efficiency and effectiveness.My communication skills are not so good,which is my major weakness. Due to this, I amnot able interact with others and expressing myviews and ideas in proper way. It sometimescreates a lot of difficulties for me. It restrictsme to share my opinions with others and it ismain reason due to which confusions takesplace (Becker, and et. al., 2014). My another strength is good critical thinkingskills which helps me in understanding thingsMy listening skills are not so good due towhich I face many difficulties sometimes in
in better way. It assists me in finding out linkbetween ideas and determining significance &relevance of those ideas and arguments. Thisskill allows me to make informed and logicaldecisions to the best of my ability. understanding things properly. Because of mythis weakness, I can not picturing out what thespeaker says (Borich, 2016). I also have good reading skills that providesme an ability to understand written text easily.It increase my vocabulary and brings fluencyevery time when I read. My organising and time management skills arealso not good due to which I sometimes unableto meet deadlines and making schedules ofeach work. SMART ObjectivesTo improve my presentation skills in 6 months. To enhance my listening skills within 3 months. To increase my time management and organising skills in 4 months. TASK 2Note takingNote taking refers to a practice in which informations are recorded that are captured fromother source. By this, an individual records essence of information and free their mind to recalleverything. This kind of skill helps the person in making records of their own working whichwill help them in measuring their performance continuously. For improving my communication or presentation skills, I attend various seminars andconferences. I carefully listen all the things that speaker says and noted down all thepoints that assists in improving my skills. I am taking participation in debates and other activities, which provides me anopportunity to interacting with others, making eye contact and expressing my opinions inbetter manner (Easterby-Smith, Thorpe and Jackson, 2012). I watch videos related to improving communication and also see English movies whichwill help me in understanding meaning of various words and sentences.I also trying to make more conversations with my friends and family members whichallows me to share opinions, ideas and thoughts and also takes feedback from them.
