Developing personal and management skills 2
Introduction
The purpose of this report portfolio is to gain learning from the experience and reflect of the
learning in order to prepare professional development goals. This report will be bifurcated in
two parts that is reflection of my own leadership and management and the second part
reflecting the transferable skills. From my previous experience, I would like to reflect some
of my major strengths and weaknesses that I have identified, on the basis of which I will be
developing my personal development plan as my ultimate goal is to be an effective and
efficient leader. Considering second part, there are various leadership and management skills
that are transferable that is that can be learnt or transferred to one another through the method
of training, coaching or theoretical learning (Dosser & Nicol, 2016).
Part 1: Reflection of own management and leadership
Considering one of the reflective models, that is Kolb learning cycle reflect four stages.
According to the first stage that is concrete experience, it can include that in order to be an
effective manager and to lead a team it is important to have some competencies which are
essential as part of personal development and professional development in order to perform
effectively in working place. Considering the second stage that is reflective observation, I
would like to include that prior to this experience I was not aware if I can manage a team and
I was not aware about the challenges that I have to Face, which has been identified from
previous experience. In order to develop my PDP, it is important to identify your own
strength, weakness and look out for the opportunities and threats in order to increase level of
effectiveness considering leadership and management skills among oneself (Dosser & Nicol,
2016).

Developing personal and management skills 3
Self-analysis
The third stage of reflective model includes abstract conceptualisation, according to which it
is important to abstract the learning or understanding from the experience, which could
present through self-analysis. Considering swot analysis as one of the Tools of management,
the key strengths that I have been identified for myself include active listening. It has been
identified that listening to others is one of the major skill which does not only include hearing
others message, but also understanding the way they are communicated and what do they
interpret from that message. Another strength that have identified while analysing myself is
creativity which reflected my decision making as I prefer to think out of the box. This also
reflects that I acknowledge continuous learning and reflects that I prefer to consider
innovation and creativity in part of decision making for myself and for my team. Application
of creativity and creative thinking has been increased to greater extent with the changing
business environment. Other than this being innovative, critical thinking and observational
skills are also part of my strength. However some of the weaknesses that I have identified
from my self-analysis include effective leadership style, this reflects that I am not very much
knowledgeable and able to implement an effective leadership style as studied from various
leadership theories. This reflects a scope for learning to be an effective leader. Another
weakness includes inability to implement change. From my previous experience I could say
that I was unable to manage the implementation of change among my team and resistance
was observed from my team members.
From the analysis and looking out future scope some of the opportunities for me include
leadership understanding, persuasion and influencing skills, change management, effective
communication skills, and emotional intelligence. However some of the threats that may act
as barrier to my professional development include lack of learning resources, dynamic or
changing environment, and changing organisational behaviour.

Developing personal and management skills 4
Professional development goals
On the basis of forth stage of reflective model that is active experimentation that is to use the
learning and the abstract from the past experience for future course of action, which could be
represented through the PDP plan for myself.
Long term goals
Long-term goals considering my professional development which I would like to achieve in
next five years, these include
Project manager at top-level corporate
Change manager (Carnall, 2018)
Considering this to long-term goals I prefer to enhance my change management skills so as to
become change manager in at initial level so as to work with creativity and innovation within
the organisation and ability to transform the project organisation towards better prices and
affective change. Other than this my ultimate goal is to be a project manager at top-level
corporate organisation. This will not only include leading a team for a particular project from
which I will prefer to implement innovation and conduct a project as per my preference and
to enhance the organisational productivity (Fook, 2018).
Middle term goals
Middle term goals are the goals that are achievable from 1 to 2 years, referring to appendix, I
would like to include my middle term goals as
Transformational leadership
Team management skills (Gilson et al., 2015)
Coaching and training skills

Developing personal and management skills 5
From these middle term goals I will prefer to enhance my coaching and training skills as this
will reflect that my learning has been accomplished and I am able to coach or mentor others
and ready to be an effective team leader. Other than this team management skills will reflect
understanding the employs behaviour and organisation behaviour which is rapidly changing
and could be a challenge for me in my future career. Moreover transformational leadership
understanding is one of the important goals that I consider because this will reflect my ability
to transform a process while implementing innovation and creativity and getting things done
from others with this vision.
Short term goals
Short-term goals are the goals that are achievable within next one year; this will create a base
and helpful to achieve middle and long term goals. Best short-term goals that I would like to
achieve include
Understanding leadership
Become a better motivator
Support and understand change management tools
Organisational behavioural study (Ghaderi, 2016)
Considering the learning style that I would be taken into account to accomplish the objectives
is combination of visual learning style and kinaesthetic learning style which reflect learning
while doing.
