Cashing in on body parts is a very common concept nowadays in US especially for those who
badly need cash. It has been observed that “hair,” “eggs,” and “kidney” have been the most
common body parts which have been sold by people among in order to get urgent cash.
It has been observed by the Shady Grove Fertility Center, which is having its offices in
Washington, D.C., Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, that nearly 13,000 women have been
expected to be an egg donor this year. Which is considered to be almost an increase by 13% if
we look at the figures form 2012. It has been agreed by almost 65 percent of women that they
were motivated to donate their eggs out of the financial factor. However, in a survey done by the
center in 2012, nearly 73 percent of the women argued that altruism was much important for
them rather than making money. But the records have been showing that the egg donors get paid
every step of the process as they get $7,000 when they are done with the first donation cycle,
$7,500 for a second donation and $8,000 for every additional cycle, which goes up to a total of
six cycles (Stilwell, n.d.).
Selling of kidney is considered to be illegal in US but still it is done and it has been viewed that
the Internet is responsible for such an increased interest in cashing in on body parts. People have
been using various websites in order to sell their body parts, for example, some people have been
using websites like buyandsellhair.com in order to sell their hair, some people use
onlythebreast.com in order to make money by selling their breast milk. Thus, it can be concluded
that people feel that it doesn’t cost much to grow your hair and sell and thus you can make good
money with very little work.
