Evidence-based research in nursing: Hand washing among nurses.
A huge number of microbes are carried on the hands and can be quickly transferred from
one person to another during treatment. In order for treatment to be successful it is important to
have good hand washing practices. The maintenance of hand hygiene and sanitation is a crucial
factor to consider during the treatment and care process among nurses and other health care
professionals. Nurses have a key role in preventing the spread of conditions from one person to
another; this includes the prevention of the range of nosocomial diseases from one person to
another. The purpose of this paper is to present an in depth analysis from varied research articles
regarding hand washing among nurses students and a well analyzed research question on the
topic of hand washing among nurses (Sickbert-Bennett et al., 2016).
Patient hand washing in the reduction of hospital-acquired infections
Patient hand washing is considered a crucial aspect in the reduction and eliminating of
hospital-acquired infections. Based on the fact that hospital-acquired infections have the
potential to lead to longer stays within the healthcare facility and a significant increase in the
mortality and mobility levels, it is highly crucial to identify ways and means that are can be
employed in the care of patients with long hospital stays. 1 in 25 patients who are found within
healthcare facilities have the potential to be infected by a hospital-acquired infection. During the
year 2011 it was identified that about 722 000 patients in medical facilities were affected by the
effects of hospital-acquired infections. Pneumonia and surgical site infections made a wide
volume of the infections. A common mode of transmission that was identified was through the
hands. Hand hygiene is one of the key methods to prevent the spread of infections among
