The role of trust in sharing and transferring organizational knowledge
Introduction
Markets of the world are passing through a transitional phase of the economy. The onset of the
fourth generation of the industrial reforms gave rise to a knowledge economy. Knowledge gained
the status of being the capital in this process. The next phase of this journey is indicating a
“Networked economy.” The transfer of knowledge is an important exercise in the “knowledge
economy,” the current literature review is an attempt to figure out some of the most crucial
aspects that can facilitate a smooth and trouble-free knowledge transfer while the variance of trust
playing a key role in the process.

Author Michael Zhang presented a conceptual model of knowledge transfer and denoted the
importance of Interpersonal trust and interpersonal feelings among the employees to facilitate the
importance of trust in the process of knowledge transfer. His research on the subject clearly shows
that trust plays a key role in the transfer of both explicit and tacit knowledge. In the absence or

lack of trust, a person only transfers explicit knowledge. He clearly stated that lack of trust is a
barrier in the sharing of organizational knowledge.

knowledge in the organization. The smaller organization finds it easier to search for knowledge,
whereas relatively bigger organizations find difficulty in the task. This paper advocates the
defragmentation of bigger organizations into smaller and trustworthy groups for the transfer of
knowledge.
