construction process. Hence the main aim of this research will be identifying and analyzing
safety management in the construction industry. Different data collection techniques will be
applied during the research. Such as; Interviews, reviewing secondary sources which have
relevant data to the topic of study and studying cases studies of construction projects.
Safety management is defined as the procedures which are followed in identifying the safety
risk in any workplace and taking the most appropriate action to mitigate the possibility of the
risk materializing and preventing or completely eliminating it.
Safety management organizes safety culture and reliable organization to keep safer to everyone
at the construction site. However, it has to be done by the workers and supervisors on that site.
Safety management inspires safety monitoring which instructs to stay alert, wear safety
equipment's and use safe machinery. Although, the main question arises from this concept map is
what strategies must be required to solve the problem of safety management.
This research will focus on studying the concept of safety management in construction industry.

In managing construction projects, safety management plays a very crucial role in ensuring that
the projects are completed successfully and within the given time frame and within the
specified budget. Construction safety management takes account of all the accidents and risks
which takes in the construction sites during the construction process (Anon., 2014, p. 443).
. From the past studies that have been carried out regarding the construction safety it was
concluded that majority of the accidents which occurs in the construction sites are due to the
human error or system failure, the accidents which occurs causes a lot of damage to human
lives and destruction of properties. There is need to ensure that the appropriate health and safety
measures have been put in place to control and prevent the accidents in the construction industry.
The construction safety management is the only option through which the number of accidents
witnessed in the construction sites can be reduced. Having proper Health and safety measures in
place many of these myriad Health and safety risks in the construction industry can be
controlled. Normally the accidents which witnessed in the construction sites are due to hazardous
human i.e. Individual factors or working conditions which are not safe i.e. the system factors.
There are many accidents which take place in the construction industry and they result in
massive destruction of lives and properties (Goldsmith, 2018, p. 542).
Research aim and objectives
The main goal of this study is to identify and evaluate the safety management in the construction
industry. A number of specific objectives were derived to assist in achieving the main aim of this
study. Some of the specific objectives include;
i) Carrying out a detailed literature review about the construction safety management
ii) To find out what are the common accidents in the construction industry

iii) To find out the positive impacts of the construction safety management.
Research questions
For the research to be carried out successfully a number of questions that are to guide the
researcher were formulated and they include;
What are the common accidents which occurs in the construction sites?
What are the effects of the accidents which occurs in the co9nstruction sites?
How can the accidents in the construction sites be reduced?
What is safety management in construction?
What are the benefits of the construction safety management? (Hill, 2017, p. 67)..
Research purpose
The findings of this research will be of great importance to different people who take part in the
construction process. The safety measures in the construction sites does not only ensure safety
of the workers’ health but they ensure that the workers work in conducive environments
which makes them to be happy and more productive. The study of safety management will
enable the contractors and clients to understand on how they can be able to reduce the number of
accidents and injuries witnessed in the construction industry.
Once different parties in the construction industry understand the concept of safety management,
there will be efficient communication between them. With enhanced communication between
different parties and improved working conditions it will be much easier for the construction
companies to produce high quality projects within the given time frame and the allocated
budget

The findings of this research will be very helpful to all parties involved in the construction. The
findings will enable the contractors and clients to understand the importance of having the safety
measures in place and how the safety management should be put in place to reduce the expenses
incurred due to the construction accidents and injuries.
The construction workers who are involved in the day to day construction of projects will be able
to understand the health and safety standards in which they should work. By understanding the
conditions under which they are required to work it will be much easier to reduce the accidents
and injuries that are witnessed in the construction industry (Perezgonzalez, 2012, p. 88).
The findings of this researcher will be of great importance to the research since it will equip me
with the necessary knowledge regarding the health and safety measures in the construction
industry.
Research approach
This research will employ qualitative research methods, whereby the researcher will be seeking
information regarding safety health and safety management in the construction industry. In this
research, the researcher will state some specific hypotheses which will be compared will be
compared with data collected.
There are many data collection techniques which are normally in the qualitative research
approach. Data collection techniques which will be used in the collection of data will be
observation, whereby the researcher will visit a number of construction sites and observe the
health and safety measures which have been put in place, this is also referred to as field research.
The field research requires prolonged. Systematic assessment of a particular setting. The
researcher will take part in the construction of some structures to observe the causes of the

accidents which happens in the construction sites (Goldsmith, 2018, p. 42). The data which will be
collected from the observation will record notes which the research will make during
observation, this will include impressions, quotes, and sketches.
The qualitative approach will be informed by logic, in which the potential understanding of a
given phenomenon is derived from the collected data.
Literature review
Safety management refers to the procedures that are followed to identify health and safety risks
and take the most appropriate action to mitigate the possibility of the risk materializing and
diminishing or eliminating the likely effects of the identified health and safety risks within the
construction industry. This research mainly focuses on the different types of risks which are
encountered in the construction industry.
The number of injuries and fatalities in the construction industry are still an obstacle clings. The
enhancement of health and safety procedures in the construction industry is a very essential goal
for many countries. There is a possibility that safety management to control all the risks and
accidents which may be believably be expected. Hence it is very crucial to identify the
appropriate safety action and strategies to accommodate potential health and safety problems
(Helen Lingard, 2011, p. 443).
Safety management inspires safety training which performs mechanical assistance and awareness
of surrounding which is very useful to reduce the accidents and make the construction safe and
easy to work. However, there are some strategies required for fulfilling the research on my topic.
Safety management can be completed by allowing save environment for which teamwork, a
collective mind, and leadership skills to make this topic successful. Safety management regulates

risk regimes and regulates organizations. Safety management analyzes the risk level and
hieratical level to find out the mistakes and solve the risks involved during the construction. It
also reduces the work stress and accidents. Safety management organizes safety culture and
reliable organization to keep safer to everyone at the construction site. However, it has to be
done by the workers and supervisors on that site. Safety management inspires safety monitoring
which instructs to stay alert, wear safety equipment's and use safe machinery. Although, the main
question arises from this concept map is what strategies must be required to solve the problem of
safety management (Executive, 2017, p. 563).
Methodology
The research methodology refers to an accurate approach which will guarantee the researcher
assurance to collect the most precise data or to carry out examination relating to his subject of
study by using different research strategies (Anon., 2014, p. 443).
. The main objectives of the proposed research are to identify the classification of accidents in
safety management in different roles.
It is very important to understand the topic of research, thus qualitative research approach in
conjunction with the literature review was employed during the research period. This research
methodology was very effective for carrying out this research since the literature review provides
information which is detailed regarding identifying the classification of accidents in safety
management in different roles.
This research approach provides an overview of the previous studies that have been conducted
regarding the planning and designing of sewage systems and gives a brief description of the

classification of accidents in safety management in different roles. In summary, the review was
carried out to determine the research gap for this research (Ferrett, 2017, p. 98).
There are many approaches that were employed during the research period and they include;
i) Use of secondary sources
This involved researching in secondary sources which contains information relevant to
international and national sewage planning and designing guidelines. With that different books,
journals, and any other source which contained relevant information was reviewed (Heinke, 2012,
p. 54).
Advantages of secondary sources
The use of secondary sources to collect data had many advantages such as;
Secondary sources are considered to be easily accessible; Interment accessibility is the only
requirement that was required to access a lot of data online regarding the international and
national sewerage planning and designing guidelines which were to enable the research make an
informed conclusion on the critical parameters regarding of the collective sewerage system.
With the use of secondary sources, they play a very important role in creating new insights from
the previous researches that have been carried out. Reanalysing the data which had already been
analysed can generate new discoveries. It is possible to analyse the data which had already been
about the construction safety management (Barber, 2016, p. 897)..
Limitations of secondary sources
Use of secondary sources can lead to inappropriateness of the data. It is a matter of fact that
primary data has a concrete idea behind the researcher's mind. The researcher usually collects

data to answer a given research question or to achieve the specific research objectives. In this
sense, the collection of secondary data may provide huge amount of information which is not
relevant to the topic of the research.
The researcher might have lacked control over the quality of the data that was to be collected. In
most cases, the government and other official institutions are the usual guarantees of the accurate
data, but usually, that is not the case. Due to that, the quality of the data collected might be
compromised.
ii) Case studies
Case studies were used as methods of collecting data during the research, whereby different
construction projects were analyzed to determine how safety management is carried out in the
given projects.
Benefits of case study research
o The use of case study research had many advantages such as;
o The case study research allowed a lot of details regarding safety management to be
collected which made it easier for the researcher to identify the best way the safety and
risks can be managed in the construction sites.
Limitations of the case study research
o It was a challenge to generalize the data which was collected from one project to all other
projects. This made it had to compare the data which was collected from the different
projects in different countries.

o It was challenging to draw a conclusion regarding the health and safety measures which
have been put in place in different construction sites.
Research methodology Rationale
This research is intended to make application of the literature review and the case study research
as the most appropriate research approach. The case study approach motivates the researcher to
carefully examine the data which is related to the given settings. Also, the case study research
allows the researcher to gather them up top to bottom data and illustrate the aspects of the safety
management in construction For this given research project it is appropriate as the review of the
safety management in the construction industry.
Analysis
Having proper Health and safety measures in place many of these myriad Health and safety risks
in the construction industry can be controlled. Normally the accidents which witnessed in the
construction sites are due to hazardous human i.e. Individual factors or working conditions
which are not safe i.e. the system factors. There are many accidents which take place in the
construction industry and they result in massive destruction of lives and properties.
Common accidents in the construction industry
i) electrocution
Even the construction sites are works in progress, they are usually exposed to wiring,
unfinished electrical systems, and power lines. Unknowingly the construction workers can
come into contact with this which will lead to shock or electrocution.
ii) falling from scaffolding or from high heights

The construction workers usually work at very high heights using ladders and scaffolding or
roofs. Due to human error or system failure workers can fall from such heights (Hughes, 2015,
p. 675)..
iii) Falling debris
Falling objects from the floors above or the high heights of the construction projects can injure
those construction workers on the lower level.
iv) fires and explosion
During the construction process, there are usually unfinished piping, gas incomplete electrical
and mechanical systems, due to that there will be a possibility of fires and explosions.
i) machinery accidents
Construction workers use a lot of heavy machinery such as nail guns, bulldozers, cranes,
jackhammers, etc. Generally, the construction workers can be injured with this equipment of they
are poorly handled.
Consequences of construction accidents
Unfortunately, when workers are injured in a construction site, it does not only affect their lives
and livelihood, but it possesses a lot of problems to their families as well. Construction accidents
can lead to expensive medical bills and treatment. The construction accidents can cause which
will have a great impact on the family in the cases where the injured worker was the sole
breadwinner.
Scope and Limitations

This research will focus on studying the concept of safety management in construction industry.
The research will be carried out in a global level where by different methods will be used to
gather relevant data about the safety in construction industry. The researcher will be restricted
to studying safety management in the construction industry only, any other field will not
reviewed. The secondary sources that will be used to gather data must contain data relevant to
the research topic.
There will be a number of challenges that will be experienced during the research and they
include:
o High amount of expenses that will be incurred while travelling from on point to another.
o Some of the people may not be willing to give accurate data regarding the construction
sites.
o Getting access to the construction can be challenging.
Conclusion
In conclusion, within the construction industry settings there is a high level of accidents and
injuries which takes place. This has been attributed to the complex tools and equipment used
during the construction process. The construction workers are usually exposed to many risks
and accidents such as fires and explosives, falling from heights, electrocution, being knocked
by the frying objects, slipping and falling.
There is need to come up with an effective safety management system which will ensure that the
number of causalities and accidents in construction industry is reduced. The safety management
will be able to identify the probable accidents and take the appropriate action before the risk
materializes. In that way the number of causalities will greatly reduce. There are many

advantages of having the safety management system in place, some of the benefits include the
improved working conditions, increased workers’ productivity and reduced number of
accidents and injuries which contributes to overall reduction in the construction costs (Lingard,
2015, p. 652).
Having proper Health and safety measures in place many of these myriad Health and safety risks
in the construction industry can be controlled. Normally the accidents which witnessed in the
construction sites are due to hazardous human i.e. Individual factors or working conditions
