This document provides information about the final draft submission for the Progression #2 Essay. It includes the requirements for the essay, evaluation criteria, optional conferencing with the instructor, and peer review instructions. Your Final Draft of your Progression #2 Essay is due in hard copy next Tuesday, April
9, in class.
As a reminder, the requirements for this essay are:
 Approx. 1900 words or more, with no filler (please exercise the 10% Rule before
submitting)
 Field research incorporated into essay (and cited)
 At least 1 source from our readings for this progression
 At least 3-4 outside sources of your own choosing from legitimate sources
 1-3 block quotes and at least 2 white spaces
 Proper MLA in-text citations and Works Cited page (not your Annotated
Bibliography)
 Formatted according to the Standard Formatted Paper (NYU Classes)
As with the first essay, your second essay will be evaluated according to the Essay
Rubric:
 25% Quality of Thought—verticality/depth, insight, connections, conversation
 25% Quality of Form—texture, organization, arrangement, flow
 25% Quality of Writing—syntax, diction, grammar, fluency
 25% Assignment Requirements—what you see above
Now I will pass around a sign-up sheet for Optional Conferencing with me. In the
interest of keeping time open for students who really need help, please do not
sign up for a time if you feel your draft is in pretty good shape—you can always e-
mail if you have minor questions.
 If you do sign up for a time, please bring a hard copy of your draft to the
conference, with specific questions.
On Thursday, I will go over how to include charts and tables in your essay, including
how to properly format and caption them. The second half of the class will be a
voluntary revision session. If you plan on staying for the second half, please bring
your laptop with your draft on it. I will be present to answer questions and provide
revision feedback.

The major paradox that the author has attempted to highlight refers to the racial discussion in
terms of the drug abuse and the loss of lives due to the same issue. The authors further focus on
the issues that are presented due to the death of the African Americans as well as the fair-
skinned residents of the country.

The dark-skinned people are majorly accused of possessing the drugs that are found to be fatal
for mankind. Thus, the heroin and opioid abuse led by the dark-skinned citizens is found to have
been affecting the mortality rate of the country.
