EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The background of the Cambridge Analytica scandal is analysed in this
report to understand the key facts of the case. The doing ethics
technique (DET) is applied in this report to identify the ethical issues and
analyse their implications by using ethical theories. Different options are
analysed based on this case, and the best option is selected that is
suitable for the stakeholders of Facebook. The professional code of ethics
which are issued by the Australian Computer Society is also analysed to
determine whether they are violated in this case or not. In order to tackle
the issues present in this case, recommendations are given for Facebook,
which will allow the company to address the current issues and similar
challenges in the future.

INTRODUCTION
The information and communication technology (ICT) has become a key
part of people’ lives around the globe, which raised the importance of
professional and ethical principles. The ICT professionals that offer their
services in this industry have to comply with certain professional and
ethical guidelines to ensure that they protect the interest of their clients
while positively affecting society (Warren and Lucas, 2016). In this
report, the ethical issues present in the Cambridge Analytica scandal will
be analysed along with the evaluation of relevant ethical theories to
identify various options and select the most ethical option. The Australian
Computer Society (ACS) has also provided various principles for ICT
professional which will be analysed in this report to determine whether
these principles are followed by the parties in the case of Cambridge
Analytica or not. Lastly, different recommendations will be given in order
to make sure that the ethical issues present in this case are resolved
accordingly.
