Impact of increasing population on oil resources
Background
The oil resources are depleting very fast which has become one of the major problem of the 21st
century but bigger problem than this topic is increasing population thereby increasing the use of
oil resources which pollute the environment. In this section, the solutions to this problem have
been presented. The various solutions can be as follows:
Use of less number of oil resources
Use of less number of resources will prevent the depletion of oil at fast rate. The less use of oil
resources will make these resources available for next generations also along with making least
impact on environment leading to environmental sustainability. The use of less resources mean
the resources generated thousands of years ago will not deplete in the span of half century. The
oil is a fossilized fuel so its impact must be minimized (Aera et al., 2019). Though this idea has
gained pace in the world community due to increasing environmental concerns and fast depleting
natural resources but this cannot be complete solution of the problem as fossil fuels were made
by nature in span of thousand years (Ahmad, 2019).
If the current population reduces the oil consumption by 30%, then also the oil resources will last
only for 100 years. The demand of oil is continuously increasing which is going to further
increase in coming years. The use of oil resources cannot be reduced among aspiring population
whereby every aspiring individual of third world nation wants to live the lifestyle enjoyed by the
people of developed countries. In such a scenario, the depletion of oil resources is natural with
wide percussions on future (Genta et al., 2019).

Immediate stop on continuously burgeoning population
The best example of control on population increase has been provided by China. One child
policy of China has been very successful leading to stable population which has started reducing.
The effective control on ever-increasing population will give viable and sustainable solution to
maintain ecological balance. This alternative if implemented will result in viable solution for
controlling population. But this solution is also less likely to be implemented worldwide as
sterilization of individuals is against the religious values of muslims (George et al., 2019).
Even if the population is stabilized by the people of other religions, there will still be increase
due to association of issue of sterilization with religion. It will not be easy to persuade all
civilizations of the world to shun the practice of giving birth to as many children as possible. As
per the estimates of United States the world population will reach to the level of 9 billion in 2050
which places onus on every individual to stabilize the population by effective means. The
immediate stop on continuously increasing population is a distant dream that is not likely to be
fulfilled in near future (George et al., 2019).
Use of renewable energy sources
Use of renewable energy sources will make the oil available for future generation while it will
provide sustainable solution of energy. The automobiles used for plying on road may be driven
on non-renewable energy sources with electricity generation also through renewable means.
Solar energy has been a constant source of energy for earth that will remain so for centuries and
ages. The electricity generation and automobile driving must be based on use of renewable
energy sources so as to reduce the impact of increasing population over oil resources. The idea of
solar energy development by all countries which fall in between tropic of cancer and tropic of
Capricon was mooted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The idea has gained worldwide

fame with the formation of International Solar alliance (Li et al., 2019). More than 100 countries
have joined the alliance with an ambitious target of generating 1000 GW of energy through solar
technology. Along with this, the idea of electrical automobiles plying over road has gained pace
in automobile industry as well. Many vehicles running with the use of electricity have been
developed. The next major use of oil is in generation of electricity by generator. To reduce its
consumption, the renewable energy technologies will provide a viable solution
Technology development
The latest technology developments have not been able to solve the issue of impact of increasing
population on oil resources. To prevent further rise of temperature and climate change, the
creativity and innovation will be useful to tackle the issue. It has been proved by historical
developments that increasing population generate demand-based technology like increased
population led to shortage of food in primitive society. That shortage resulted in practicing
agriculture which met the demands of primitive society (Li et al., 2019). The offshore
exploitation of natural resources will meet the demands and expectations of the youth of the 21st
century.
All major energy sources are fossil fuels which release harmful carbon emissions in the
environment making it polluted for every living being. Such new resources of energy will meet
the aspirations of current and new generation with prevention of depletion of oil resources.
Propose an idea
The idea is to invent or discover new technology which can make it possible to extract offshore
resources present under the sea. Hydrogen fuel cells or P-series fuels have been the latest

technological developments but there is need of value proposition as even these technologies are
not completely environmentally sustainable (Norov et al., 2019). This idea is different from
existing solutions as the current approach has been to use renewable energy which is noble idea
but cannot completely replace oil as fuel. The increasing use of oil resources has made it black
gold with the likely percussions of the latest developments on humanity and all living and non-
living things. The idea will provide sustainable solution for ever-increasing demands and
expectations of modern humans. The invention of new technology like carbon storage,
detoxification and reducing the temperature by placing mirror in atmosphere at strategic location
so as to reduce the impact of harmful rays need to be explored vigorously.
Development of the selected idea
The variables of improvement criteria include amount of carbon emissions released by
automobiles (or carbonequivalent gases) in a particular time period, the number of people using
own vehicle to travel, the amount of oil consumption per individual, the amount of oil resources
left (which have been discovered and able to be extracted) with developed and developing
countries. The above mentioned idea will affect the variables of these criteria in a positive as
well as negative way. The carbon emissions released by automobiles may get increased (P et al.,
2019). Along with this, there will be increase in number of persons using own vehicle to travel.
The amount of consumption per individual may get increased with the exploration of new oil
resources. Along with this, there can be environmental impacts like oil spills, loss of
biodiversity, loss of other marine resources. To prevent environmental deterioration, the
judicious use of limited natural oil resources must be advocated. Though it can increase the

environmental problems if not managed properly, there can be hope of ray for people who are
residing in remote regions of the world. The electricity has not reached to every village of the
world, leave alone house. There will be economic prosperity for the region where these resources
have been identified and will be explored like South China Sea (Aera et al., 2019).
This will have major impact on international relations as marine resources will become a bone of
contention to fight for it leading to negative impact on hitherto cordial relations and peace
maintained since the end of World War 2. The idea will work by increasing the economic
prosperity for hitherto underdeveloped regions with use of the latest technological means which
will make available resources for everyone (Ahmad, 2019). This will reduce economic inequality
which is continuously rising. The upper 3% people hold 90% of wealth according to the report
presented by World Health Organization. The exploration of oil resources in sea bed will make
the particular areas rich from the perspective of economy and wealth. The concentration of
wealth in few hands leads to bitter relations in society. The new oil resources found at seabed
will also help generate employment for local population which will meet the demands of
increasing population especially when technological developments is reducing the employment
prospects for individuals.
Change concept
The change concept which best describes the solution of this problem is matching the amount to
need. There will be exploration of more oil resources to better meet the demand of increasing
population. The offshore or marine areas have high number of oil reserves which have not been
explored so far due to international complexities involved. So there is need to manage
international conflicts and do offshore drilling which makes oil resources manageable for

centuries. Currently, the demand is more than supply which leads to high prices for end
consumer. This generates the need to look over issue from the perspective of demand-supply
gap. Along with this, there is need to find alternative solution to oil so that the environmental
impacts are minimized.
Stakeholders
The following persons can be considered as major stakeholders of the idea presented above
a) Oil refineries and MNCs
b) Scientists community
c) Governments
d) Environment conservationists
e) End consumers or local population
f) Business class
Harmful Impacts to major stakeholders
a) Environment conservationists will not be happy with idea as offshore oil exploring is the
major issue in international community from environmental perspective. They will
oppose the idea due to chances of it destroying biodiversity due to many natural or man-
made disasters like oil spills. There may be backlash from society as well as it has
become increasingly environment conscious. Recent fire accident in Amazon forests
generated widespread anger. This may be true of idea of offshore oil exploration (Genta
et al., 2019)
b) The government of various countries may face resentment among local population due to
increased environmental awareness and changing climate. Along with this, there can be

international conflicts over access to offshore oil resources which may generate
disharmony among citizens of different countries.
c) Scientific community may be harmed from environmental perspective as the technology
developed by them can bring marine life destruction. Another major impact can be over-
reliance on scientists to find the solution of every problem associated with environment.
this will lead to indifference attitude reacted to environment among many stakeholders
(George et al., 2019)
Benefits
a) The business class will get the benefit of more prospects to continue or enter the business
related to oil. There will be many opportunities for business class to explore the hitherto
banned areas due to environmental reasons (Norov et al., 2019). There will be more
chances of selling the natural resources to local population leading to business value
creation.
b) Due to increased supply, the local population may get the benefit of cheap oil which can
make end consumers economically access more fuel. They will be able to use cheap
energy sources due to lowering of prices of oil in international market. Along with this,
the increasing population can get employment benefits. This may make the end consumer
economically better with high chances of economic prosperity.
c) Oil refineries and Multinational companies will get the benefit of increased oil resources
with bright prospects for their business. They will be able to expand their business to
other areas.

Value proposition
The value proposition entails addition of value to an existing product or service by removing
pain of consumers and giving them value added product or service leading to gain creation. The
value proposition in this case is the addition of offshore drilling technologies in the kitty of
natural resources exploration technology to meet the demands of increasing population. The idea
is to explore the natural oil resources present offshore to remove economic inequality as far as oil
resources are concerned. The idea may generate backlash from society so there is need to
effectively communicate the idea to each stakeholder which will emphasize the need of
economic development in hitherto undeveloped areas with bright prospects.
