Re: Clinical Education
Dear Mr Bottomline,
This letter is in responseto the memo which was received, dated 14 July 2017 and was
addressed to ‘all staff’ and entitled‘Clinical Education’, stating your decision on that ‘financing to
clinical divisions will now be based completely on clinical activity’ and that ‘areas of our building
previously dedicated to teaching should be used primarily for clinical care’. We had arranged for a
staff meeting, comprising of the heads of every clinical department as well as health professionals
and nurses employed within in-patient, out-patient, emergency and
diagnostic departments, to discuss this memo and come to the unanimous conclusion that we
strongly supported financing of ongoing clinical education. We kindly request you to review the
benefits of clinical education, including its impact on health care as detailed below. The copy of
the minutes of the staff meeting can be forwarded if required.
Kindly allow me to highlight the benefits of incorporating clinical education in the health
care services as it is vital for successful clinical training to achieve high quality of deliverance of
the healthcare services (Christner et al. 2016). Clinical education emphasizes on the incorporation
of curricula which are evidence–based in order to enhancethe quality of student training so as to
enrich the future performance of the student in the practical field. Numerous varied skills are taught
as a part of the clinical education curriculum which include: techniques of physical examination,
along with educating students on the correct practices with which medical procedures can be used
in the deliverance of a holistic care to the patient – a practice which forms the crux of Good Care
Health Services’ foundational and organizational principles. Such educational practices in general

and clinical education in particular will thus assist in improved assessment and alleviation of the
symptoms of the concerned patient. This will further allow students to engage in improved patient
examination and assessment which will pave the way for practicing evidence based patient centred
care as well as students’ learning of appropriate usage of differential strategies of medical care in
realistic scenarios (Lefroy, Watling, Teunissen & Brand, 2015). Furthermore, the clinical education
constructsthe opportunity for the students for the development and advancement their skills with
proper experience with the patients and correct guided exposure in handling problems.
Clinical education also focuses on proper evaluation of feedback. Moreover, clinical
decision making is also taught where the trainee is educated on ways to gather data precisely,
correctly interpret the data and evaluate it take the accurate evidence-based action (Bvumbwe,
2016). In addition, clinical education provides the platform for planning management where the
trainee is educated on ways to develop objectives along with developing the effective plan to meet
the objectives (Nielsen, 2016). Additionally, clinical education also benefits students and future
health professionals in the development of skills associated with resource management, budgeting
and clinical governance. This is because, clinical education also teaches students the precise way of
determining the direction with which, resources which are vital for the implementation of the
planned clinical tasks can be used, along with teaching skills related to time management and
creation of an approximate timeline for task distribution and delegation. Clinical education also
teaches on the importance of collaborative care and thus, enlightens students on the importance of
communicating the finalized plan with the concerned departments so that patients can receive
optimal, holistic and comprehensive multidisciplinary care along with continued clinical treatment
via the inclusion of timely follow ups. (Manninen, Henriksson & Scheja, 2015). Clinical education
also enables the student to develop patient centred skills and principles of therapeutic relationships,
which can then be used to handle patients from varied ethnic backgrounds. Such skills, which can
be acquired via clinical education, will ensure the deliverance of optimal care to each and every
patient served at Good Care Health Services, in an ethical and empathetic way.
