3Organizational Leadership – Project Report – Sink or Swim Case Analysis1.IntroductionOne aspect of being the leader who is effective and successful concerns the capability for logically as well as in a deliberate manner undertake robust decisions even in worst case circumstances. The focus of this report is the case study named “Sink or Swim” by Ankeles et al. (2013) that is based upon Sloan Woman in Management (“SWIM”) club, an organization run by students from MIT Sloan and this case examines difficult decisions which the group’s co-presidents Rachel, Lea, and, Tarini needed to face. In the case, SWIM was undertaking the third annual women business conference in the year 2013, as well as it had been planned to be largest event in its three years run. With an objective of guest attendance totalling, three co-presidents, Rachel, Lea, and, Tarini were required to put in close to a year’s efforts in planning for the purpose of pulling off the event that is highly attended, well-run, as well as sophisticated. This one-day conference was intended for having packed schedule filled with various panels, talks by keynote speakers, as well as discussions concerning many different topics relating to women as well as business.The overall schedule, operations, marketing, and end-to-end planning had fully been managed till the very last detail. Three co-presidents, in addition to the directors as well as the committee members of conference, undertook planning on what delivering the event that is well-attended and well-appreciated. The sole thing that is threatening to be the show stopped is the planning with respect to weather as the same escalated to the event’s worst-case situation. Three days before this event was to take place, massive formof snowstorm was predicted to engulf Boston region on day of this conference. Further additionally, many keynote speakers / panel speakers were actually flying in and coming from outside of Boston, and as just couple of days wasleft for event, many of the participants had arrived to Boston already, or else were in midst of their travels. Co-presidents, in this context, had many challenging decisions facing them and they need to be undertaken on the basis of significant amount of considerations as well as factors. 2.Leadership & IndividualsTheoretical ReviewContingency Theory for Leadership defines that that the effectiveness of a leader shall be contingent over the ways in which the style of leadership shall match with the specific situation (Fiedler, 2015; Lussier & Achua, 2015; Hollenbeck et al., 2015). That is, leadersneed to determine what forms of style with respect to leadership as well as situations that one thrives up on. In essence, contingency theory lays emphasis over the aspects that there is not one best or sole leadership style to be followed, and theleader can be effective only when the specific leadership style fits the particular situation (Fiedler, 2015; Lussier & Achua, 2015; Hollenbeck et al., 2015). Contingency theory shall not be concerned in having a leader to adapt for the situation, instead the goal lies in matching with the style of leader to the compatible situation. For the ideal application of the theory, it shall be critical for finding which style the leader possesses (Fiedler, 2015; Lussier & Achua, 2015; Hollenbeck et al., 2015). The same shall be undertaken by way of Least Preferred Co-worker Scale (“LPC”).
