"Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health”.
The Institute of Medicine along with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) aims to
take a major initiative towards the establishment of Future on Nursing (Campbell et al., 2017).
The initial action plan of the program will include conducting a study that aims at producing a
transformational report on the future of nursing. The Ad hoc committee formed will be allocated
for examining whether the nurse workforce are capable of meeting the demands of a reformed
heath care and public healthcare system (Campbell et al., 2017). It will be their responsibility to
develop or create certain set of national recommendations that includes the one which addresses
issues like how nursing services can be delivered at a shortage environment or the nursing
education system’s capacity. The report for the above action will be formed by the committee
and the report will outline a clear agenda and blueprint for the action plan including public and
the institutional policy changes at both the local and state levels and also at the national level
(Campbell et al., 2017). The recommendations made by them must address the issues with the
system changes including the innovative ways of resolving those (innovative ways to solve
nursing shortage in the United State).
The underlying recommendations made by the committee with the aim to recognize and
take into account the responsibility of nurses in designing as well as implementing an
effective healthcare system are focused on the following key elements-
Reconceptualising and redefining nurse’s role with respect to workforce, nursing
shortages, social and public issues and on the current technology for future development.

The committee formed on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future
of Nursing, at the Institute of Medicine, creates a vision for a transformed health system by
identifying the limitations and the demands of the current healthcare system in the United
States (Sebastian et al., 2018). The IOM "Future of Nursing” envisions a system that aims at
making quality care accessible to a diverse population and promote health and disease
prevention, lead to an improved health outcome and uses holistically approach to deliver care
across the lifespan (Institute of Medicine (US) Committee on the Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing, 2019). The committee recognises primary
care and prevention to be the central drivers of the healthcare system and it’s the norms to be
