MANAGEMENT
Introduction
In an organization, there are several issues, which affect the operations. These are
gender, race, culture, power, hierarchy, identity among others. In order to manage these
issues, corporate governance and ethical code of conduct is enforced and strict actions are
taken for violating the standards and protocols. The organizations attempt to improvise on the
shareholder returns through enhancing the standards and quality of the operations (Cohn
2019). The thesis statement of this essay is to assess the importance of corporate governance
in enhancing the management practices of organizations.
Discussion
1. How does gender intersect with other identity categories of race, class and gender?
Race and class reflects a group of people with similar characteristics. Gender is the
segregation of the population into male and female categories. In the threshold of workplace
both race, class and gender intersect, as the employees share mutual understanding between
them. Diversity prevails in the employees, as they belong to different socio-cultural
backgrounds. This diversity is one of the other aspects, which reflects the intersection of
gender, class and race. According to the Equality Act (2010), both male and female
employees are provided with equal opportunities and access to the resources. In some of the
exceptions, it is seen that discriminations occur in the form of racial discriminations, of which
some of the employees take undue advantage (Rosette et al. 2018). In such cases, Racial
Discrimination Act is enforced for effective handling of the situation.
Providing opportunity to the women employees acts as their empowerment and
reduces the chances of discriminations. Ethical code of conduct is a central doctrine in terms

of averting the instances of sexual harassments and others. Forums have been established,
which places women on a higher pedestal in terms of workplace privileges.
2. Critically evaluate the organizational and management issues
In order to manage the business operations, the managers need to expose their power
and authority. Maintaining the hierarchy is effective in terms of preserving order and
harmony. Rationality and logical approach of the managers is needed in terms of enhancing
the identity, which invokes their leadership skills, abilities and competencies. Irrational
approach in this context is harmful in terms of exercising the leadership for influencing the
performance of the employees. This logical approach is an agent for earning respect from the
subordinates, which upgrades the personality. According to Marasi, Bennett and Budden
(2018), involving the employees in decision-making process is an example, which reflects the
ways of exercising appropriate authority and enhancing the identity. This involvement relates
to the participative management and leadership style, which expands the scope and arena of
the thinking skills and judgmental capabilities towards decision-making.
3. Discuss the consequences of maximizing shareholder value and critique whether this
should be the dominant principle of corporate governance?
Shareholder value creation is one of an important component of the corporate
governance. This value creation occupies the central position in the business operations. The
important parameters of value creation are revenue, suppliers and manufacturers, taxes,
interest expenses and net income (Chen and Feldman 2018). Standardizing the quality of
these aspects generates inclusive practices, which enhances the cultural diversity. Along with
this, the approach enhances the stability in the relation with the clients and customers.
Economic profit is one of the main sources of maximizing shareholder returns. However,

provision of quality products and services is effective in terms of maintaining the market
position in the competitive ambience. Identifying the metrics is one of the ways in which
value creation can be fulfilled. Within this, Stanley and Wasilewski (2017) mentions about
earnings per share, which is an integral component and process of governing the process of
value creation.
Conclusion
Corporate governance is one of an important parameter, which maintains the order
and harmony of the organization. Within this, ethical code of conduct is a central doctrine,
which helps in averting the instances of discriminations and harassments. The managers need
to be conscious of the enforcements of this doctrine, which reflects the extent to which their
approach aligns with the leadership skills, abilities and competencies. Tracking the earnings
per share is one of the integral components of value creation, where the aim is to maximize
the investment returns for the shareholders. Here, the focus needs to be on the wellbeing of
the clients and customers instead of profit. Feedbacks are a way in which the operations can
be monitored to assess whether they align with the value creation metrics.
