Dear Ms Goodlow,
Thank you for your interest in associating with our organization as a cosmetic formulator.
Our team had enjoyed the interview with you and we believed it was an insightful session
for us on so many levels.
While the meeting was really interesting, it is with dismay that I report to you that you
have not been selected for the role of the cosmetic formulator. As you are aware that our
company is centered around natural and organic products. Even though you have an
exceptional profile, we still feel that it is not relevant to Benington cosmetics just as yet.
Your experience with the likes of L’Oreal and Innisfree does not help us in any way

Refusal to Attend a Summit as a Mark of Protest

Subject: Refusal to attend the India Business Women Award
Dear Organizing Committee,
I hope my letter finds you in good health, and that the preparations of the summit are in
full swing. Just two weeks ago I had received an invitation to be a speaker/panellist at the
India Business Women Award which will be held in New Delhi on August 29 2019.
I am writing this letter to you to inform that I will not be able to attend the summit. With
my refusal, I would also like to let you know why. As an independent natural cosmetic
formulator of India origin, and naturally brown skin, I have always believed in body
positivity. One of your panellist and fellow speakers at the conference Ms Jayati Shinde
has been known to openly discriminate based on colour and for her harsh words against
women who are not fair. I found it extremely irresponsible of the organizing committee

to have invited such a person who is responsible for inflicting pain and mental agony to
so many women.
While I understand you may have your reasons and fair justification to have her on board,
I believe my principles will not allow me to share the same stage as her. Hence, as a mark
of protest, I render my refusal. I believe in empowering women through my work and
words, and associating myself with someone who has done otherwise, will be
exceptionally wrong on my part. I am a little disappointed in the organizing committee’s
decision of bring Ms. Shinde, however, that is a discussion for later.
I wish your event all the very best, and I hope that next year, the panelists chosen are
more inclusive and well mannered. And if so, then I shall gladly be the part of the event
next year.
