INTRODUCTION
To become successful in life it is highly necessary to develop with the skills so as to
attain the heights and succeed with their career. Further, in an organization there must be
assessment for all the employees whether they are on the greater grade or on lower. This will
help them to grow in there career and perform with there task efficiently. They must organize
with several training sessions which help in brushing there skills and make them more efficient
in managing with the tasks (Galliers and Leidner, 2014). Moreover, all the people must learn
with new things so as to increase their level and can be an aid to boost there career. For this
report, the company selected is Marriott hotel and Thus, different management and leadership
styles are determined in an efficient manner. Further, assessment of individual skills is been
analyzed by adopting SWOT analysis tool and set with the targets to attain the objectives. At the
end, different managerial and personal skills are been stated which will help in developing the
career to a greater extent. Moreover, the development plan is been reviewed on the regular basis
so as to ensure with the best results.

1.1 Comparing different management styles
In an organization, large number of management styles are been adopted according to the
nature of their business. This assist in managing the operations of the company in an efficient
manner. Further, it is crucial for the firm to practice with an effective management style so as to
ensure high performance of the company. Some of them are studied in detail below:
ï‚· Directive- The main objective of this is to incorporate with the employees to take the
major decisions of the company. They highly motivates the staff members to perform the
task in an effective manner (Greenwood, Sanchez and Wang, 2013). Furthermore, they
organize with regular training sessions which will help in developing the skills and
knowledge to perform the task properly.
ï‚· Authoritative- In this they aim at providing with an efficient long term direction and
vision to the employees. This will help the them to perform with there task properly as
the objectives and targets of company are been stated clearly. They motivate there staff
member by giving them feedback for there work on daily basis so as to develop with
there performance at high level.

ï‚· Affiliative- They focus on developing with relationships among the managers and
employees so as to ensure harmony in the organization. This make that there are less
number of conflict situations at the workplace. Further, with an efficient situation
availing in the firm helps in motivating the employees to complete their work properly.
ï‚· Participative- It is considered as one of the most effective style adopted in the
organization. There main objective is to ensure active participation of every individual in
the company and in the decisions taken for it. Further, this enhances with the
belongingness of the individuals towards the company (Johnson, 2014). Moreover, they
motivate the employees by serving them with rewards for there best performance.
Thus, it can be said that each management style has its own set of targets and objectives
so it is crucial for the company to adopt with the one which best suits there working activities.
Further, it must be incorporated with there own objectives so as to ensure greater performance
level. In addition to this, the style adopted must be modified or changed according to the working
situations (Haimes, 2015). Thus, it is recommended that Marriott hotel must adopt with
democratic management style and Hilton hotel should practice with participative style at there
workplace.
1.2 Determining characteristics of leadership
A leader is a crucial person in the company which helps in leading the employees towards the
achievement of goals and success. Thus it plays an effective role in ensuring the coordination of
work and the target set for them. Further, it is important for the company to adopt with the best
leadership style which gives them best results and help in developing there business. Thus
following are the major characteristics of leadership which must be adopted by the leader of
Marriott hotel to become efficient:
ï‚· Must be reactive- It is important for a leader to give an immediate reaction to the
problem or any situations so that they can overcome with that and achieve there goals
properly. They must have on the spot answers for the questions which are been asked by
the staff member (Hwang and Ng, 2013).

availing situations. They must maintain healthy relationships with the employees so that
they can lead them towards the success of the organization in an efficient manner.

between the staff members and managers, so they must be clear enough in determining

The process to transferring the information in the form of ideas, feelings, thoughts etc. from
one person to another is known as communication process. It is considered as one of the most
essential means to sustain there business properly. Further, the communication can be done in
two ways which involves verbal and written manner. The prior one refers to the one to one
interaction among the two or more people by there facial expressions and words (Jones and
Jones, 2015). On the other hand, written manner refers to the one in which the communication is
done by sending emails, letters etc. However, face to face interaction is high beneficial as they
are able to judge the facial expressions of another person and make them understand the data
properly. Thus, there are several types of communication styles which can be adopted by the

firm which involves emotion based, rational means, based on intuition etc. which help them to
convey there message to other person in an efficient manner. Further, in Marriot hotel they must
adopt with formal communication process at the workplace so as to transfer the data from one
person to another. This will also assist the company to develop with an efficient relationship with
the employees. In the Marriott hotel the decisions are taken by the top level managers and they
are been conveyed to the departments heads in the formal manner by organizing with a board
meeting or any other type of get together. They will further state the employees about the
information by involving with there team members and tell them the rules and regulations or
other information. In addition to this, if the workers need to convey there problems to the
management than they need to follow with the formal procedure by telling their views to the
manager and they will convey them to the higher authority. Thus, this will help to maintain
decorum of the workplace in an efficient manner.

Organizational culture refers to the manner in which the things and operations are been
performed at the workplace. This will assist in determining the way the employees are been

the people and making them works in an efficient manner. Thus, in this the power is been
derived by the position of the individual in the organization. Each person’s role is been
determined by the higher authority and they are having the power accordingly.
ï‚· Person culture- In this they give higher preference to the employees and give them
rights to take active participation in taking decisions. Moreover, the company organize
with training sessions for the staff members so as to develop there skills and knowledge
to achieve further success. They motivate the employees to perform the task in an
efficient manner and increase the efficiency of the company as a whole.
ï‚· Task culture- In this the company is only concerned about the completion of the work
irrespective of the rights given to the employees. They only bother about the work and

are been developed looking at the objectives of the people rather than on the needs and

this they cared less on the part of employees and ask them just to complete with there work in an
efficient manner. This, has helped them to set up with there position in the industry. But with the
changing time and thinking of the people, it developed with the need to adopt with person culture
at the workplace as in the present time, market is highly focusing on satisfying the needs of
employees to a greater extent. Thus, due to this they need to practice with this culture in the
organization to retain the staff members for a longer time.

3.1 Strategies to motivate team members at workplace
According to the case study in the new restaurant in covent garden London I have various
kinds of roles and responsibility in the team. I have to handle the team member and manage the
activities and function of the restaurant so as desired objective can easily achieve. The cited
restaurant is the five star restaurant in the London which main objective to increase the numbers
of customer and deliver excellent quality of food product and services. For this objective I have
to develop an effective team and coordinate with team members. In this manner, motivation is
very important through which team member can improve their performance. Following are some
measures and strategies through which I can motivate team member in the organization-
ï‚· Monetary and non monetary rewards- This is very effective and important measure in
order to motivate employees fir higher productivity and performance. While employees
perform their job and responsibility in an effective manner then company appreciate their

higher performance.

development
As per the above entire discussion it has been ascertained that being a manager in the
Marriott hotel I have various kinds of roles and responsibility. In order to fulfill the same, I have
to use my various managerial skills such as communication, coordination, leadership, time
management skill etc. As per my own evaluation and analysis it has concluded that I have
various strengths such as effective communication skill which assist me in delivering my
knowledge to subordinates at workplace. With assistance of communication skill, I can able to
conduct team meeting and interact with employees in an effective manner. In addition to this, my
effective leadership skill and coordination skill assist me in developing productive team. By this
skill, I can effectively manage the team members and support them in accomplishing their
assignment. As per these my strength and positiveness I ma looking for opening my own hotel.
In this planning, my previous experience and strength will support me. However, I have also
some weaknesses such as lack of technical skill, time management skill etc. These weakness
creates barriers in my performance so I need to work on the same.
