1NEH FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
Introduction
The National Endowment for the Humanities was created in 1965 and is an independent
federal agency. All over the United States, NEH is the top most funders of humanities

interpretation of all the subjects that includes language, both classical and modern; history;
linguistics; literature; philosophy; archaeology; ethics; criticism; comparative religion and theory
of the arts” moreover, all such aspects related to social science with humanistic content and
further employ humanistic method (Arts, 2019). The main mission of NEH is to enhance
progress and provide scholarship in the subjects of humanities.
The fellowship awards from National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)
arecompetitive awards that are generally granted to all those scholars, who are pursuing projects
that require exceptional research. NEH informs all the Congressional offices regarding
thefunding and grants that has been awarded to the respective institutions.Fellowship provides
recipients extra time to produce books, e-books, peer-reviewed articles, digital materials and
conducting research (Benneworth, Gulbrandsen & Hazelkorn, 2016). NEH also highlights the
main aspects that how their constituencies affect their institutions with their NEH funds.
There are various programs that an applicant can apply to obtain fund for NEH curriculum,

The program period may vary from 2 to 12 months. Each of the humanities project must be made
under a single topic or themes that should be included from the various areas of humanities. The
subjects include philosophy, literature, history, writing skills and compositions. Basic research is
related to the improvements of the entire existing curriculum. Furthermore, the funding can be
used for the research fulfilling interests & goals for the community and institutions (Thelwall et
al., 2016).

The application process for Grants under NEH is highly competitive. A demanding peer
review system is applied for determining the most deserving application for federal support. The
curriculum framework needs to have an effective humanities component to shine out among all
the competitors. As NEH does not support any fund if the project is not linked to some topic or
area in humanities. While writing the narrative for the project, it is important to carefully outline
the main content of the proposal.
For various grant programs, the preliminary drafts of the narrative must be submitted within the
six weeks prior to deadline. The narrative must be within three single spaced pages (Sivertsen,
2016). A bibliography within a single space page and the resume of the individual must be
provided within two single spaced pages. As the proposal is reviewed, NEH staff member can
alert if the proposal is eligible or not for the funding.

The College is to belisted with the grants.gov, while the Dean of the institution or the
college CFR personnel should be designated as AOR or the Authorized Organizational
Representative.
The CFR personnel of the college submit application in respect of the Dean of the college
(Dee Menning, 2019).
On the other hand, if the grant is provided to an individual, than he or she can get themselves
registered on the Grant.gov, which is the page for applicant registration. Before doing so, the
CFR personnel must be informed by the individual. The grants provided at Carleton are most
commonly in the form of a fellowship or a summer stipend(Dee Menning, 2019). The applicants
eligible for NEH Fellowship should submit a writing sample for the proposed project. Moreover
the scholars can also solicit a recommendation letter from efficient expert in the field related to
their proposal project.
The evaluation of the proposal is done by senior experts. Therefore, good examples are to be
included while writing the proposal. The reviewers actually contextualize the topic, hence the
information provided must be intellectual in nature. According to Mahon, (2018) if the faculty
possesses special language skills beneficial for conducting the research, then their expertise must
be showcased. The proposal is to be presented in such a manner that it should be well qualified
without any doubt.

created that infuses humanities learning into professional learning. It would help in creating
immense opportunities for the scholars and faculty members to study together. Moreover, digital
humanities projects can be further initiated for curriculum development.
The funding opportunities would support collaborative and partnership projects in the
humanities. Furthermore by initiating a curriculum related to English Language would help in
strengthening the education system of American Public School. The funding opportunity can
bridge programs for non-traditional students or first-generation students and secondary students
of the American Public School. Moreover, the project would help in nurturing the intellectual
skills and efficient habits of all such minds that are cultivated by humanities.
Conclusion
In the recent times, NEH aims to fulfill its mission by nurturing the humanities curriculum
and supporting research work in humanities to each and every American. With the help of NEH
programs the study and teaching of humanities would be strengthen to a great extent. Among all
the projects that NEH supports, the programs and awards for faculty should be continuous,
without any break from the project during the whole tenure. Hence, it can be concluded that
NEH offers a wide variety of grant programs to all the individuals as well as institutions to
promote humanities by performing highest quality work. The curriculum framework would
create learning opportunities for the students of American Public School and encourage them in
future.
