LEARNING DIFFERENCES
Section 1
Dominic is a young boy suffering from ADHD disorder since he was in grade 3.
Dominic therefore, faces many challenges while he is at school such as he has a lot of mood
swings and is unable to play outdoor games, he is also a target of bully and also sometimes
refuses to come out of the classroom (Barona & Fernandez 2016). Another challenge that
Dominic faces is memorising things taught in school as well as at home. Being Dominic’s
carer it is difficult for me to control his hyperactivity and impulsiveness. It is also difficult to
teach him since he is unable to memorise things properly. Being the patient of ADHD I try
my best to make things work but it is not possible as I forget things quickly and I am also
often the centre of every joke and bully that lowers my morale (Danielson et al., 2018). It is
very difficult for me to memorise everything. This kind of educational experiences will
impact the individual in his workplace as there too the individual will be unable to control his
impulses that may lead to violent behaviour and the person may ultimately lose his job or not
get job at all.
Harry too on the other hand suffers from reading and writing disabilities. It can be
said that he is suffering from dyslexia where a person is unable to read and write but
understand words through sound which was seen in the case of Harry (Reid, 2016). Harry
faced the challenge of reading and writing and lagged behind from other students in school
that tremendously lowered his confidence. Even in the second school though he showed some
improvement he was unable to read and write and therefore left school when he was fifteen
and became a mechanic because cars always interested him (Reid, 2016). From the
perspective of Harry’s tutor I would find it very difficult to make Harry concentrate on his
reading and writing. His mischief would further aggravate my problems but at the same time
it would be difficult for me to come up with a solution for Harry. From Harry’s perspective it
would be difficult for me to make others understand what problems I was facing and how

much I disliked school and academics. Due to my poor performance I even lost my friends
who started looking down upon me that further affected my morale. Being a weak student in
school Harry’s life is affected in his workplace too where being a mechanic he is still unable
to read and write and therefore is not given any promotion because of his poor literacy skills
(Reid, 2016).
Section 2
If I suffered from problems like Harry and Dominic then it would be quite difficult for
me to cope with the daily academics that were being taught in school. Being stereotyped as
well as judges like Harry and Dominic would be quite insidious for me. When it comes to
academics then threat of being stereotyped as well as going through a continuous socio-
emotional distress can immensely affect the ability of the student and lower his/her morale at
the very outset. I had to cope with negative labels that would be set against my name.
Therefore, in this situation I will be needing extra support from my teachers as well as from
my friends who would help me to cope with my studies (Osterholm, Nash & Kritsonis 2011).
Furthermore, in my previous school the teachers should be more polite and should have asked
the other students to continue their friendship with me and they should also encourage me to
take part in sports like other children (Bruyere, 2017). Even in the second school the focus
should be more on my mental and emotional needs instead of academics as warmth and
affection would help me to come out of my problem. Being Dominic’s carer I should be
supported with all his medical conditions that would help me to understand his problems and
solve his problems of hyperactivity and impulsiveness (Hamilton & Astramovich 2016). I
should be given special training to teach a child like Dominic. I should be encouraged to
build a warm relationship between Dominic (Jones, 2015). If I was the second teacher of
Dominic then I should be told about his likes and dislikes and the school should provide me
with technology that would help me to make the lessons interesting for Dominic and engage
