In today’s time, multinational companies (MNCs) focus on skilled and talented
workforce for resulting in better outcomes. Such companies make sure of employees
interacting and coordinating with each other within the workplace. But, there is a presence of
diversity in every company which increases the conflict between employees due to individual
differences. It has become essential to motivate the workforce for eliminating conflicts
between employees as it can impact the productivity of multinational companies. The concept
of staff motivation and impact on productivity is based on the positive environment of an
organisation within the diverse workforce (Maduka & Okafor, 2014). The objective of this
essay is to research the relationship between staff motivation and impact on productivity with
certain arguments based on rapid changing of workplace environment, management of
workplace diversity, and long-term productivity of an organisation. The importance of staff
motivation is argued as an essential within multinational companies for enhancing
productivity with the presence of diversity.
In today’s time, MNCs face challenges due to rapid changing workplace environment
for the survival in such competitive markets where it is essential to improve the productivity
of companies without any negative impact which mainly depends on the performance of
employees. Employees play an essential role in an organisation for enhancing growth and
productivity where it is crucial to keep them motivated. This argument will cover the factors
impacting the productivity which are employee motivation, workplace environment and
workplace diversity (McForson, 2012). It is essential to fulfil the intrinsic, extrinsic and
social needs of employees to make them stay and provide a quality work to increase the level
of their performance. This helps in providing satisfaction to employees for being motivated
which will consider the factors such as their health and safety, workstation design, noise,
lighting and others to make up the workplace environment through such elements impacting
the motivation of employees. If employees will be motivated, they will always be ready to
contribute in gaining the productivity and performance of a company (Nabi, Islam, Dip, &
Hossain, 2017).
Within workplace environment, it is essential for MNCs to establish procedures and
policies for encouraging work by motivating employees and to reduce any kind of negative
impact on productivity. Motivating employees acquired with skills, knowledge and abilities is
important for MNCs even after the presence of technological advancements along with
valuing workplace diversity in a positive way to attain competitive advantage as well
(Peltokorpi & Vaara, 2014). In MNCs, effective interaction between employees in such

workplace environment with the presence of workplace diversity helps in building flexible
positive relationships along with motivating employees for positive impact on productivity.
The increase in communication between employees with different ideas and opinions lead
towards innovative ideas of individuals and makes them work in a team effectively while
interacting to achieve organisational objectives and goals in terms of performance and
productivity (Webster, 2017).
Another point of discussion argued is workplace diversity which has a huge impact on
the productivity in a positive manner contributed towards work of employees. They get
motivated through recognition and reward as per their expectations which make them
contribute in delivering high performance and increase their motivation as well. Hence,
employees start putting more efforts to achieve the organisational goals when motivated and
leads company towards success by enhancing their work with full determination and
concentration (DeLancey, 2013). Overall, these factors will increase the productivity of
companies through more output, less cost and unemployment for MNCs by encouraging
workplace environment and workforce diversity along with eliminating individual differences
and working together with building relationships and maintaining communication. Thus, it is
clear the staff motivation impacts the productivity of organisations. Before gaining
productivity, it is essential to set performance indicators for achieving the goals and
objectives within an organisation. The need of measuring performance is for determining
success as per setting of future goals along with detecting existing challenges and rectifying
them efficiently and effectively (Bawa & Bawa, 2017).
Workplace diversity helps in adding value to MNCs as identified one of the strategic
capabilities working with extremely innovative and highly skilled staff even among the
presence of individual difference. The effect on workforce diversity is in relation to gender,
age and ethnicity which still provide positive benefits if managed properly. But, if not, this
can lead towards negative outcomes as well in terms of productivity (Joseph R. & Selvaraj,
2015). In business, diversity and globalization trends have been increased where it is
necessary for MNCs to manage cultural differences and working attitudes of employees.
There is no doubt that workplace diversity can generate both opportunities and challenges at
the time of management employees in a workplace environment. Workplace diversity can
enhance the productivity by gaining competitive edge through embracing change and
motivating employees. Whereas challenges faced in workplace diversity can lead to
managing employees effectively with different values, attitudes and beliefs which can occur

between such situations that will get bit hard to handle while building relationship between
co-workers (Lauring, 2013). In terms of impact on productivity, diversity values in MNCs
consists of improved resource acquisition, cost advantages, system flexibility, greater
marketing ability, better problem solving and enhanced creativity.
On the other hand, the argument is based on importance of staff motivation after
studying workplace environment and workplace diversity. In organisations, motivated
employees contribute in working effectively and efficiently for enhancing productivity and
performance. The matter of fact is level of satisfaction on job employees are contributing in
delivering positive impact to organisational productivity and performance (Selvaraj, 2015).
This can be possible through providing justified salary packages based on their position and
working more towards fair promotions for better results in productivity. It is essential for
employees psycho-socially and physically to work in a positive environment considering its
culture and values consisting beliefs, attitudes, day-to-day operations and practices with
effectiveness in an organisation enhancing the employees’ productivity and improving
performance by keeping them motivated. Based on individual differences, diversity in an
organisation can help in creating positive relationship among co-workers which makes it
strong to deliver desired goals through encouraging performance and enhancing productivity
(Shaker Ardakani, Abzari, Shaemi, & Fathi, 2016). This practice of working in a team gain
more benefits collectively that working as an individual. The role of employees is determined
based on their contribution towards work performance in MNCs with the existence of
different individuals and culture where this factor of diversity helps in exploiting advantages
for employees.
Employee motivation helps in facing the challenges within an organisation easily and
helps in making better decisions while being satisfied and comfortable towards their work
with positive impact on productivity along with the support of management of MNCs. If a
company will keep employees motivated, this will lead to creativity, innovative ideas, and
their commitment and engagement towards their job even with the presence of workplace
diversity in such a workplace environment (Productivity, 2018). Implementation of practices
will help motivated employees in achieving the strategy success and mission of an
organisation through contributing towards work in an effective and efficient manner for
positive impact on productivity. Employee motivation in a diverse workplace environment
can be encouraged by interacting, communicating, and sharing information with other co-
workers for improving the productivity of an organisation (Foss, Foss, & Nell, 2012).

However, while supporting these three arguments of positive relationship between
workplace environment, employee motivation and workplace diversity impact the
productivity and performance of MNCs in relation to focusing on identifying objectives
(Elsaid, 2012). In the workplace, physical convenience, safety and security, and comfortable
facilitates motivates employees and maintains the positive relationship with one another
which will enhance the productivity in an organisation as well. Another impact of diverse
workforce is based on ethnicity, culture and values for motivating employees to work
positively and effortlessly. Diversity in the workplace creates coordination while contributing
through improving performance and satisfaction of employees. This helps in maximising
their contribution to achieve the goals and objectives of an organisation even with the
presence of different individuals’ culture differences (Alhejji, Garavan, Carbery, O'Brien, &
McGuire, 2016). There is a positive correlation between motivation of employees and
effective productivity of an organisation.
If there is increase in employees’ motivation, there will be boost in organisational
productivity as well by keeping them committed and satisfied in their job or work they do
while giving contribution through performing better for delivering quality product. However,
any sort of stress or discouragement to employees can lead towards the negative impact on
productivity of an organisation which is why it is impact to keep them motivated. In MNCs,
productivity depends on the motivation of employees which makes improvement in
workplace changing environment and workplace diversity with the help of management.
There is a high impact of employees’ behaviour on performance and productivity while
contributing towards a company’s success where individuals from diverse backgrounds
working together adds further advantage to an organisation (Dobre, 2013).
In the workplace, changing environment, diversity and employee motivation are all
interrelated while understanding the impact on productivity. It is essential for the
management of MNCs to keep diverse individuals motivated in a changing environment for
making them working together to enhance performance and encourage productivity positively
(Kim, Hoskisson, & Lee, 2015). Based on supporting these arguments, workplace diversity
benefits MNCs with innovative ideas but it is difficult for management to handle individuals
with different culture, beliefs and values. That is why it is important to fulfil the needs of
employees and keep them satisfied for making them stay together without any biasness while
contributing towards achieving the goals and objectives of an organisation with improved
environment and better productivity (Saxena, 2014). Maintaining positive relationships for

positive outcomes is possible by keeping employees motivated by making them to treat each
other without any discrimination, communicate well for enhancing performance, encouraging
each other to work together for long-term success, setting standards in MNCs for making sure
about activities they do impacting productivity, and create an open-minded environment
where skilled and talented employees feel comfortable and involve in making decisions.
Based on the above arguments, it is concluded that identification of productivity in an
organisation is linked to the motivation of employees. The arguments based on the workplace
environment and workplace diversity in MNCs contributes in motivation of employees with
no difficulties created for them. While increasing their motivation to lead towards the better
productivity, it requires help of management considering such factors and using them as
strategies in a positive manner for improving performance and enhancing productivity
effectively and efficiently in MNCs. Lastly, it is clear that staff motivation have an impact on
productivity in a positive manner with the presence of changing workplace environment and
workplace diversity in MNCs involving management playing an important role in an
organisation.
