Transition to a new energy future:
The primary production of electricity is being generated through coal. But an enhancing
portion comes from the renewables and the natural gas. The nuclear power portion is
essential, but it is slowly shrinking. In 2013, the EIA approached that the United States
acquired 41% electricity from coal, 26% from the natural gas, 19% from nuclear, 13% from
sustainable energy and 1% from the petroleum.

By 2040, the EIA projects show the mixture variation for various fossil fuels as, 35% natural
gas, 32% coal and 16% renewables and nuclear.
By the conversion of EIA numbers in the quads, a revised forecast is being arrived of 12.6
quads for the energy consumption in United states by 2040 which involves the 25% standard
deduction due to the extra cost induced conservation and the efficiency. By reducing this
figure by 20%, the value is being down to 10 quads. But it is required to add the shifted
transportation electricity demand by five quads to bring the net sustainable electricity goal to
