Serendipity is a word defined as the act or the ability to make some accidental
discoveries; it is done, especially while doing some other research that is not related to what is
discovered. The word is known to be a harsh English word, and also it becomes tough for the
people to understand it. Many people tend to define the term in different ways, where it can also
be defined as fortune (Da Veiga, Brezzi, Marini, & Russo, 2016). This paper is based on
serendipity as an aspect of innovation and creativity. It also discusses its scope arguing whether
it is a skill or luck.
Concerning creativity, most of the companies are aware that the potential always exceeds
the performance. This problem has thrust to an extent the managers in the organizations are not
able to solve the problem. Therefore, the companies tend to be creative and create some
initiatives which sometimes fail to work. They tend to establish new techniques to address the
issue (Da Veiga, Brezzi, Marini, & Russo, 2016). The aspect of serenity is not unique in
contemporary society. The phenomenon can be linked to various companies throughout the
world. As the companies strive to achieve their goals and objective by using human capital,
through luck, a new invention arises out of creativity.
In an attempt to demonstrate creativity and innovation, the article on serendipity authored
by Derek (2010) is examined and evaluated. The article uses the scenario that occurred during
the building of the Japan railway to demonstrate serendipity. As the engineers were building the
