Part 1
A) As per my knowledge, people hold a variety of expectations from the study of
psychology (Noe et al. 2017). Psychology helps to understand how various functions are
operating in the workplace. The principle and theories are applicable in many situations.
It solves many problems in workplaces. There are five major approaches to psychological
approaches. These are as follows:
Behavioral approach
The behavioral approach helps to provide external stimuli to the employee in the
workplace (Owen 2016). It helps to influence the behavior of the employee within
the workplace. Behaviorists do not trust in free will. They believe that employees
may learn the behavior with the help of punishment and penalty. This
methodology is really very helpful if the employee does not care about someone’s
beliefs. The influence of these theories affects the employee every day. The
influence of these theories affects an employee every day and throughout their
corporate lives. It creates a huge impact on every aspect of corporate life.
Cognitive approach
Cognitive psychologists believethat the behavior of the employees is determined
by the employees’ expectations. A famous cognitive psychologist Jean Piaget
would argue that a person can remember only those things which that person
knows (Pillemer and Rothbard 2018). An employee can resolve several issues
based on the previous experiences of him or her.By using this approach a
company treats an employee as machines without free will. The action of an

employee is based on internal procedures. If a company is adapting this process
then there will be less stress on the employees.
Humanistic approach
Humanistic psychologists believe that a person is outstanding and it is providing
him or her necessary motivation to understand the full talent of him or her.
Psychologists from this field focus on the way in which a person feels happy by
meeting the needs of him or her. A famous human psychologist Cart Rogers says
his patients as clients (Raudonis et al. 2017). He provided good environments that
help to achieve the supportive environments. Incorporate culture, the humanistic
approach applies individual empowerment. It does not matter whether an
employee is correct or wrong in his or her position. The employee is motivated
with the help of his or her own talent and skills. The selection comes from the
improvement of the life of the employee. A humanistic approach would be
supporting and encouraging but would not directly advise the employee to resign.
B)
What is the core skill to develop?
Initial talent that is required for the professional development is focus and attention.
Why did I select this skill to reflect on? Why is this core skill important for your
development (personal and professional)?
Focus as well as attention to a particular assignment is the most important part of the
workplace (Spector et al. 2014). It is treated as the entrance of all thinking: perception,
memory, learning, problem solving and decision making. It is hardly possible for an employee
