I can get an internal pleasure on studying MCs in Big Data analytics and this would
help me to perform well academically.
Activity 1.8:
Challenges of studying in a foreign language:
Studying in a foreign language can always impose challenge on the students. This is because
those students who are not familiar or not fluent in the particular foreign language can find
extremely difficult to gasp the lessons of their courses. Similarly, I have chosen the English
language as the medium of studying in the MSc course. Since, English is not my mother
language, there could be some initial difficulties for me to communicate and understand the
lessons successfully (Lou 2019). Although; I have significant knowledge about the language;
however; I would need to increase my fluency in this so that I would be able to communicate
with my lecturers and other students in a better way. There can be difficulties on
understanding the speech of my lecturers and therefore; if I fail to be proficient in this
language; then it come become difficult for me to gasp the meaning of the speech
successfully.
I have chosen an English degree as this language is accepted as the official language in most
of the countries around the world. Moreover; if I learn the lessons In English language; then I
would be able to understand the global articles and research papers on Big Data analytics
successfully. This would also help in enhancing the possibility to get recruited in some
multinational companies around the world successfully.
Activity 1.9:
Last studying experience:
During my BSc course; along with the learning modules; I also went through advance studies
so that I could gain more knowledge on the subjects. I have also studied all the lessons that
have been taught by my lecturers in details. I cleared all the doubts regarding the subjects
during my course. I have followed the guidelines provided to me and also have conducted
independent studies for gaining further knowledge. Initially, the English language posed
challenges for me as I was not fully skilled in this language during my school life. However; I
Document Page
5STUDYING AT MASTER’S LEVEL
enrolled myself for English private coaching sessions and this has helped me to get a good
hold over this language. I have thoroughly enjoyed my course and the lecturers as well as the
internet sources have helped me to learn the subjects successfully.
Activity 1.10:
Old and new methods:
At the last place of the study that is during the BSc course; the subjects were thought in
simple English language. Moreover; in the course; basically text books and physical learning
materials were provided for studying. There was a limited scope for the students to use the
online learning materials during classes. However; I had involved myself to search for the
lessons over the internet as well. This helped me to increase my knowledge and further; also
helped me to conduct an in-depth research of the studies that were taught in the classes. It
helped me to succeed well in the examinations and also has helped me to have a better
understanding of the subjects than others.
For studying in the English University; it would be important to be highly fluent in English.
Along with this, it will be also important to study from the internet sources more than
physical learning materials or books (Paul et al 2018). My knowledge about the internet
resources regarding the subject would help me to perform well in my academics. However; I
would also increase my English skills so that the challenges regarding the language barriers
can be overcome successfully.
Activity 1.11:
When is the best time to do things?
It will be important to set a proper time period for studying individually. The time period
needs to be set such as there would be enough energy in me to be dedicated towards learning
with patience. This would help me to increase my knowledge in this field. Moreover; for each
goal, a respective time period will be set within which the goal can be achieved successfully.

Activity 1.12:
How do I study best?
In order to be successful in this course; I need to identify the methods of studying which
would be suitable for me. I feel that more than listening, I can gasp better lessons by reading
the course materials or the online resources. It would be also better for me if I draw the mind
maps for structuring all my thoughts regarding the lessons to be learnt. For learning in a
better way, I would like to have the audio recordings as well as the slides. The slides would
help me to visualize the lessons that would be taught. These would also help me to
understand the lessons in a better way. It would be also better for me if I am able to discuss
the lessons with my friends so that I can get their ideas and thoughts about the particular
learning outcome.
Activity 1.13:
Planning the study:
At first, I will set a realistic goal regarding this course. Then, I will set a clear time period for
myself within which I will achieve each skill from the course. After this, I will identify the
places where I will be comfortable enough to dedicate my time on studying. I will collect all
the resources that would be important for completing my studies successfully. Then, I will
identify the people who would be able to provide me the support for increasing my
knowledge on the subjects. Then, I will conduct assessment sessions in which I will assess
the progress of my study.
Activity 1.14:
End of unit activity:
From an MSc program, I want to achieve the research and critical analysis skill which would
help me to establish my career successfully in the field of Big Data analytics.
I have understood the time period within which I need to submit all my works and formative
reviews will help in understanding and assessing my skill development during the course.

Unit 2: Communications:
Activity 2.1:
Why do we communicate?
Communication is an important aspect for learning as well as for sharing the knowledge. In
this regard, humans need to communicate with each other for gaining more experience and
for supporting each other for learning. One approach is to learn from others. In terms of
learning, communication with the lecturers and the industry experts is a necessary element. In
terms of sharing the knowledge, communication with the colleagues or fellow students is a
necessary element that needs to be followed. In this way, it is possible to utilize the
communication skills in a better way in the academic as well as in professional life.
Activity 2.2:
An approach to plan the communication:
In terms of communicating during my course, I need to say my perspectives on some lessons
and also to clear any doubts regarding my studies. I need to communicate as it will help me to
gain more experience and I will be also able to understand my lessons in a better way. I need
to communicate with my colleagues as well as with my lecturers. I need to clear all my

doubts and also need to gain experience by communicating with my lecturers and the
colleagues within the time duration of the course. I need to follow my plan effectively to be
successful during my course.
Activity: 2.3:
Topic and aim of communication:
Topic:
The methods of using my communication skill for increasing my knowledge about the study
Aim:
To communicate effectively with the lecturers and the students so that I can share my views
on the topics and to increase my knowledge by discussing with them
Activity 2.4:
Knowing the audience:
The probable audiences will be the colleagues and the professors of the University.
Colleagues will always expect that I would be able to share my knowledge with them and
vice versa. On the other hand, professors would expect that I would clear my doubts from
them and will be also able to answer and understand their teachings successfully.
Activity 2.6:
Bibliography is an important part of any research study and it is way by which the writers
give the credit to the authors of the original source from where the research has been taken. It
also shows that the writer has conducted a proper research while writing the paper
(Libguides.mit.edu, 2020). A bibliography is conducted by mentioning the name of the
authors of the research paper, the date of publications, name of the journals and the pages on
the journals from where the research has been taken (Science Buddies, 2020). Citations do
help the readers to identify the original sources from where the information has been taken
and therefore; they can further increase their knowledge by learning from those cited sources
(Hattangadi, 2020). For finding the sources, it is important to either search the topics on the
Document Page
9STUDYING AT MASTER’S LEVEL
search engines or to search them in the online libraries (In et al., 2020). The digital sources
thus can help the writers to analyze and evaluate the studies in a successful way (Gormly et al
2019).

Activity 3.2:
Activity 3.3:
Types of abstracts:
Three types of abstracts are short, fairly short and informative. Abstracts are used for
providing the readers of the research paper with the information regarding what has been
included in the paper. A good abstract can be analyzed with the way, the basic information,
methodology and findings are provided in brief. The first step is to define the purpose of the
paper, the methods that have been used, the scope, results or findings from the research and
the conclusions. Even, information regarding future research is also essential.
