Answer to the question 1
To test the given problem the chi –square test is the best test. Because in this question
both variable gender and cohort are categorical. The problem is categorised in to two ways.
Hence the test is called 2 by 2 chi square test.
Null hypothesis: The proportion of males and females between the July 2019 and January
2020 is not different.
Alternative hypothesis: The proportion of males and females between the July 2019 and
January 2020 is not different.

It has been seen that the critical value is larger than the alpha at 5% (alpha =0.05).
Hence the null hypothesis is not significant. Thus it may be concluded that proportion of
males and females between the July 2019 and January 2020 is not different.
The proportion of male as an entire is 0.5 and for female is also 0.5.
