Area 1: Leadership and Management
Theoretical models:
Traditional leadership styles are defined as the process where power has been bestowed
upon the leader based on their traditions of the past in the past almost every leaders were
considered to be traditional and their power had been tied to their past leaders. From this case
study it has been pointed out that the organisation needs to have proper leadership and
management style that matches the demands of the employees as well as the clients to provide
high quality service in the organisation. This organisation follows traditional leadership styles
western great man theory and trait theory (Nguyen et al. 2017). These are two traditional
Outlook regarding leadership styles where the theorists believe that leaders are born with every
capabilities of leadership which make them stand outside the cloud. Similarly according to the
trait theory the theorists think that leadership styles are developed with time and situation. The
leaders grow their traits with the time and situational change. References can be made about
servant leadership Theory where the leader believes in the philosophy of serving. This is
however different from the traditional leadership where the main focus remains in the thriving of
the company and Organisation but the leaders naturally have the feeling to prioritise service first.
The traditional leadership process leads therefore to the limitation of the policies and change
scope in the organisations.
Role and priorities of NHS Management:
In this particular organisation mentioned in the case study request for a leader who has
operative capacity. This can be supported by the governmental bodies in the national level who
can take actions for implementing the steps like development of people and environment of care
framework. These leaders need to be focusing on the systems working and building improvement

skills of the employees at every level. The leadership in this organisation a traditional and
authoritative where the communication system or information passed from the higher authority
to the lower one. In order to make changes according to the needs of the situation. This is the
reason why the leadership styles are to be changed to include more available support (Gipson et
al. 2017). It needs to develop the role of local leadership academies and launch a system wide
program for addressing discrimination against the employees. Talent management is another
factor that this organisation requires so that empowerment of the employees can be done and
they can contribute their skills whenever there is any situation faced by the organisation.
Managing talent and improving quality can improve the organisational culture and utilise
resources properly.
Internal and external influences:
The internal and external factors directly relate to the leadership. This may include the
organisational resources, employee roles, and the culture of the organisation, sociological
factors, technology, economic and political factors. The organisational resources manipulate the
leaders to make Strategies and then implement for the growth of the organisation (Nawaz and
Khan 2016). These resources include the employees, finance, technology and other physical
resources for achieving the goals. It is the ability of the leaders to acquire and utilise the
resources in a proper way. The sociological factors are external which the leaders must
understand true demographic makeup up and culture of the Clans. This includes the Trends of
the Marketplace which allowed them to design particular products and services meeting the
needs of the populations the economic and political factors effective in manipulating supplier’s
competitors and customers of the organisation therefore the leaders need to understand the
necessity of educating themselves with these information for accomplishing goals (Scott et al.

2018). Technology can change business environment overnight. This is the reason why the
leaders need to adjust their styles for helping the organisation to adapt to technology. In case of
NHS, research and development needs to be supported by improving technological advancement
so that the quality can be improved. Among the internal factors the training, support, employee
performance and company values manipulate the leadership of the organisation attitude interests
of the staff members in the organisation allow the leaders to make certain decisions. Company
values especially in the case of NHS, is related to its service. The leaders who you do not have
sound knowledge about company principles cannot make decisions ethically. Training of the
leaders is another factor which can manipulate the management of this organisation to improve
their skills and abilities of decision making.
Relevant recommendations:
In recommending the leadership styles needed for developing a collaborative approach in
this organisation transformation leadership style needs to be implemented. In this respect the
leaders or managers will be allowing the employees in the decision making process which will
enhance transparency within the organisation. In addition to this cultural diversity will be
restaurant and potency of the leaders as well as the employees will increase within time.
