Sir. John A. McDonald was the first ever Prime Minister of Canada. He had a
political career which spanned over a decade making him the one of the most dominant
figures of Canadian history. He had played an important role in creating Canada and played
an important part in creating the first railway lines of Canada as he had always wanted to
build a transcontinental railway in the country. He is also considered to be one of the chief
contributors to Confederalism. Although his government was accused of taking bribes during
The Pacific Scandal of 1873 in association with the Pacific railway lines, this caused Sir John
A. MacDonald to resign, he was popular among the masses and was re-elected as Prime
Minister which he remained until his death in 1878.
The purpose of this essay is to create a Fact Video about Sir John A. MacDonald
which would be useful for presenting facts to the audience about his historical importance.
Sir John A. MacDonald plays an important role in Canadian history as he was the first
Prime Minister to realize the importance of a railway line in the country. This came to
fruition with the establishment of the Pcific Railway Lines in Canada which connected
Central Canada to the British areas. As stated by Bowden (2015), this railway played an
important part in the sense that it made travelling easier for people from one part of the
country to other parts. Sir John A. MacDonald was also important to the Canadian history as
he was a pioneer of Canadian federalism. As one of the pioneers of Confederation, he agreed
to join the Great Coalition of 1864 whose main purpose was to achieve confederation for
Canada. Although he was known to be a drunkard, corrupt and having no moral judgement,
he was an important figure in the Canadian history (Creighton 2018). Sir John wanted to
create a nation which would be loyal to the British empire. Indeed, he was an important
figure in the history of Canada and has played an important part in building up the country
the way in which he wanted to.
