Sir John A. Macdonald: The First Prime Minister of Canada

Sir. John A. McDonald was the first ever Prime Minister of Canada. He had a
political career which spanned over a decade making him the one of the most dominant
figures of Canadian history. He had played an important role in creating Canada and played
an important part in creating the first railway lines of Canada as he had always wanted to
build a transcontinental railway in the country. He is also considered to be one of the chief
contributors to Confederalism. Although his government was accused of taking bribes during
The Pacific Scandal of 1873 in association with the Pacific railway lines, this caused Sir John
A. MacDonald to resign, he was popular among the masses and was re-elected as Prime
Minister which he remained until his death in 1878.
The purpose of this essay is to create a Fact Video about Sir John A. MacDonald
which would be useful for presenting facts to the audience about his historical importance.
Sir John A. MacDonald plays an important role in Canadian history as he was the first
Prime Minister to realize the importance of a railway line in the country. This came to
fruition with the establishment of the Pcific Railway Lines in Canada which connected
Central Canada to the British areas. As stated by Bowden (2015), this railway played an
important part in the sense that it made travelling easier for people from one part of the
country to other parts. Sir John A. MacDonald was also important to the Canadian history as
he was a pioneer of Canadian federalism. As one of the pioneers of Confederation, he agreed
to join the Great Coalition of 1864 whose main purpose was to achieve confederation for
Canada. Although he was known to be a drunkard, corrupt and having no moral judgement,
he was an important figure in the Canadian history (Creighton 2018). Sir John wanted to
create a nation which would be loyal to the British empire. Indeed, he was an important
figure in the history of Canada and has played an important part in building up the country
the way in which he wanted to.

Sir John A. McDonald is a figure of extreme significance in the Canadian history. He
plays a significant role in the country’s historical part as not only being the first Prime
Minister of the country but also because he made a lot of contributions to the development of
the pacific railways in Canada. Apart from this, he also was responsible for the establishment
of the Canadian Confederation. It was because of the railway lines that people could move
from one part of the country to another. As stated by Squarebriggs (2018) apart from that
MacDonald was also re-elected as Prime Minister in spite of his party being accused of
taking bribes in case of The Pacific Scandal in association of the pacific railways.
MacDonald wanted a nation which would be loyal to the British Government as he was
British himself. Thus, such a historical figure played an important role in building the
historical past of a country named Canada.
The Video was organized in a manner which would include texts, images as well as
instances from the life of Sir John A. McDonald. The video was organized in such a manner
so that it was important for the viewers to understand the historical significance that the
character had in the history of Canada. The Fact Video would help the viewers to understand
what Sir John A. MacDonald has established in the country during his time as the Prime
Minister. By watching the video the audience would be able to educate themselves with such
historical figures and their contribution to the history of the country. To recreate the Fact
Video, first the students had to learn properly about the personality and what his/her
contributions to the country are. In this case, the personality of Sir John A. McDonald needed
to be studied properly. This included his background, his achievements, his years of Prime
Ministership etc. After that the second part would involve collecting the necessary videos that
would match with the information obtained. Once the information and the videos are
obtained, the next part would involve organizing them in such a way that they would

appropriately tell the viewers about who Sir John A. MacDonald is and what is contributions
to the country of Canada are.
Organizing the Fact Videos in a proper manner would make the presentation look neat
and clean and as well as make the audience appreciate the work. If the Fact Video properly
gives description about Sir MacDonald and his achievements, then it would be helpful to the
kids in understanding about their history and the personalities behind it.
The Fact Video will be effective for showcasing among the public audience because it
would help the audience to learn about the historical figures who helped shape their country.
This will also be beneficial for the foreigners and travellers as they would be unaware about
the history of Canada, so in that case, a Fact Video can be particularly useful in portraying
the history of the country. Kids and young people who have just started the first phase of their
education will be benefitted from such Fact Videos as this would educate them about the
history of the country and the people who were responsible for it. Other than that, such Fact
Videos posted in public places will help the general public remember about their country’s
past and the figures that were responsible for shaping the country. Such Fact Videos would
also serve better in the educational sectors as they will be easier for the students to understand
and keep in mind rather than studying about them in textbooks. Fact Videos can also be used
in the documentary purposes. These documentary videos can be used in television and other
programmes so that the television audience can also learn about the history of the country as
well as its forefathers.
Making the Fact Video alone was not an easy task so it required help from other students of
the class. First of all, to make the video, it was necessary to distribute among the students the
parts that each one of them are going to do. Once these was done, the next part was
assigning each student to finding out the information about their respective parts. The third

part included researching about the individual parts and to gather as many information as one
can. This step would be helpful in the later stages as it would be easier to make the Fact
Video. After this, comes the part of making the videos and organizing them in such a way
that they will be in sync with the text of the fact videos. The next step for the students would
be to make any one of them a narrator who would narrate the text. The final step for the
students would be to sync everything (videos, narratives and texts) properly so that when the
Fact Video is made properly, it would look appropriate and not just a roughly made work.
The more appropriate the video is, the better the presentation of the work is going to be. This
would ensure that the work made by the students would be liked by both the teachers as well
as the general public. This would help them to get good scores in their results and the video
would also be appreciated by the public as well.
The Fact Video, if made well will ensure that public will have a clear understanding
of the subject matter as well as can get to know about the various historical figures who have
been a part of the historical part of the country, so that they get to know who the founding
fathers of the country are.
Sir John A. MacDonald, was indeed an important figure of Canada’s historical past.
This was because of his efforts that the Pacific Railways was built and people were able to
move from one part of the country to the other part. He also played an important role in the
creation of Canadian Confederation as part of his loyalty to the British Empire. He was
popular among the people which led him to be re-elected as the Prime Minister even after his
party was accused of taking bribes during the Pacific Scandal (Bowden 2015). Despite being
not of a good character himself, he was popular among the masses which is evidenced by the
fact that he built a railway line that would connect Central Canada with the rest of the
country. A Fact Video made on such an important historical character will be helpful for the
masses as it will help them to understand about the history of Canada and the people who

were responsible for the historical incidents in the country. Indeed, Sir John A. MacDonald
was one of the polarizing figures of Canada who had played an important role in the
country’s historical past.
