1 NURSING PHILOSOPHY Nursing philosophy is a set of principles, which guide the parameters of quality nursing practice and also set out the professional standards and code of conduct of the nursing profession (Matua, 2015). This paper will highlight a personal reflection based on the underpinning factor of the nursing philosophy. The profession of nursing refers to an inherent bond of trust and respect that exists between patient and their professional care (nurses). In addition to this, the philosophy of nursing also assists the nursing professionals to improve the health and quality of life philosophy of the service users through a person-centered approach (Dahnke & Dreher, 2015).Four different nursing concepts are pillar of my nursing philosophy. First pillar of my selected nursing philosophy is providing proper respect psychological, social, spiritual and cultural beliefs of the service users. This cultural and spiritual competence procured through person-centered care plan helps to improve the overall quality of care while helping to develop therapeutic relationships (Matua, 2015). Secondly, my selected the nursing philosophy is to give importance to the surrounding environment of the patient. It is the responsibility of every nurse to provide comfortable environment to patient through empathy in order to increase their comfort level. Thirdly, the nursing professionals must give comprehensive importance to mental and physical health of the service users’ health in order to promote speedy recovery (Sellman, 2015). Lastly I think, as a nurse it is our duty to provide care by showing empathy, compassion and prioritizing patient need through five core value of nursing such as dignity, human, autonomy, altruism, and social justice. All these concepts are guided by the ethical philosophy of nursing. I selected these four pillars underpinning the nursing philosophy in order promote speedy recovery of the patients both from physiological and mental health perspective.
