Executive SummaryStatistics means the science of collecting, organizing, presenting, analyzing, and interpreting datato assist in making more effective decisions. Knowledge of statistics is necessary to support theincreasing need for companies and organization as well as personal day to day life. In this report,we compute many statistical techniques to analysis the banking sector of Bangladesh. For thisreport we are collecting our data from the annual reports of 30 DSE listed banks of Bangladesh.In this report, we showed the mean, median, mode, frequency distributions, range, variance,correlation, regression, dot plot, quartiles, deciles, percentiles, probability, index number andmany other techniques whose are necessary to complete our report. Though there is some lackingof materials, we tried our best to show each and every technique of statistics fruitfully. Weelucidate the techniques as much as possible. We took the revenues, assets and retained earningsfor our data set and showed various techniques by using them. By making this report, we areknown that mainly statistics uses for three reasons. (1) Data are collected in a technical waysthose gives the best information knowledge which is useful to our daily life. (2) Statisticaltechniques are used to make professional and personal decisions. (3) No matter what your careeris, statistical knowledge is a must to understand the whole world and to be conversant in yourcareer. In this report, we used the techniques in manual as well as in excel. We also showedsome graphics presentation whose are really helpful to understand the information in an easyway. While making this report, we want to present, as best as we can, to give the relevant anduseful information which is easy to understand. We know that working with a statisticaltechnique is helpful and develop our computer skill as well as statistical knowledge. We hopethat you will find this report as interesting and knowledge.vi
Chapter 1: IntroductionReal life experiences are needed everywhere and for the business students. We were assigned towork on real life business to apply statistical tools on that to analyze the situation and takedecisions. For the assigned work, we have chosen 30 banks. We have collected annual report of30 banks and collect their total asset, liabilities, net profit, EPS, DPS. Then we applied differentstatistical tools using this information. These are Dot plots, stem and leaf, Quartile, Quintile,Percentile, Decile, Box plot, Scatter diagram, Correlation coefficient, Testing significance ofcorrelation coefficient, Contingency table, Anova table, standared deviation, Frequency table,Bar chart, Pie chart etc. To prepare this report we learn many things like collecting annual report,applying statistical tools and analyzing them.Objective of the studyThe report was assigned to our group as an inevitable part of the course named“F-107: BusinessStatistics”of B.B.A program under Department of Finance of the Faculty of Business Studies,University of Dhaka.1. To use statistical tools on real life data and take related decisions.2. To get practical ideas of balance sheet, income statement, statenment of equity.3. It helps us to understand the whole statistical concept thoroughly.MethodologyWe have completed this task through some steps. Following the instruction of our honorablefaculty, Tanvir Hasan, we have formed a group of six members consist of Md. Amirul Islam, MdHasnayn, M. Sajid islam, Mehedi Hasan, Aysha Akter Shirin, Abeda Sultana.We were assigned to pick up annual report of 30 companies. After picking up we have collectedsome information like net profit, EPS, DPS, net asset, liabilities. Using this information, we haveapplied different statistical tools. Undoubtedly, this was complicated as well as interesting tocollect this annual report and applying statistical tools.1
Limitation of the studyThe task was a rigorous and obviously complicated. So have some problems while working forthis report. The findings of the study have to be seen in light of some limitation.1.Lack of proper knowledge on Microsoft Excel.2.Lack of research on practical statistical application.3.Insufficient sample size for statistical measurement2
