Part 1
The main objective is to design a short telephonic survey to observe the demographic
characteristics of people in the catchment of a local community health service. It is also required
to distinguish between the groups using the healthcare service and not using the service.
To conduct the survey, a locality that actually have community health service for the
residents should be taken as the population (Nardi, 2015). There are various sources of
population data such as telephone directory of the locality, census data and local health centre
data and so on. Since, the survey is based on phone calls, it is desired to use the phone directory
for selecting the population. The telephone directory will provide the numbers of the local people
for the survey. Then a sample can be taken from this population based on the survey (Wolf et al.
2016). It is most appropriate to use random sampling for selecting the sample in order to prevent
bias. Although random sampling is the best way for selecting a sample, it suffers from some
disadvantages (Sharma, 2017). It may happen that the sample could not contain some particular
information about the population which should be considered. Further, it may include some
information which are irrelevant to the study. These difficulties can be reduced if sample size is
enough large to represent each characteristics of the population.
After selecting the sample, the next task is to form a convenient questionnaire. It should
be noted that the questionnaire must be relevant, easy to understand and must not contain any
dual-meaning question (Patten, 2016). Once the questionnaire is formed, the survey can be
conducted to extract information from the local people. Then the collected data can be
represented in a spreadsheet form to simplify the way of visualizing, analysing and interpreting
the data.
