INTRODUCTION
A teacher is an individual which provides knowledge and education to pupils & students.
Role of a teacher is ongoing and formal which is performed at school, colleges and other places
associated with education. To became a good teacher, a person is required to have specific
professional qualifications either from a college or university (Elliott, J. ed., 2012). Teaching is a
complex activity and the competencies needed by a professional teacher is impacted by different
aspects such as an instructor, expert learner or civic person. This assignment is based on the
responsibilities, roles and boundaries of a professional teacher. Beside this, issues associated
with delivery and planning of learning sessions will be mentioned. Personal experience of a
teacher and excellent lesson plan of micro teaching session will be discussed in a detailed
manner.
MAIN BODY
Teacher is a person which help other people to gain value, competencies and knowledge.
In informal manner, the roles and responsibilities of a teacher can be taken by any individual
which is capable to provide required knowledge to others. But in case of formal teaching, it is
carried out by paid professional teachers. Professional duties of a teacher is not limited to
academic education only but it is extended up-to field trip, study halls, supervisor of different
curricular activities etc. Teaching is a practice which reflects the values of being a responsible
person for ourself and others. To be a good teacher, an individual is required to learn new
concepts and knowledge after they qualify. This will help them in achieving continuous
professional development. Other than that, teachers can use lesson plan so that their students can
be offered with appropriate course of study that is known as curriculum. Those teachers which
provide academic education or other kind of knowledge to a single person are called as personal
tutors (Korthagen, F. A., 2013).
In order to be an effective and good teacher, a person must incorporate patience in its
behaviour. This is because, the work of a teacher is to provide necessary information and
knowledge to its students so that they can perform well in different stages of life. But this
procedure is not easy, as it is a time taking task to transform an individual into a responsible
person. To achieve this, a teacher must have patience. Beside this, to be an efficient teacher, a
person needs to be professionally qualified which must be capable to manage hyperactive

students. Teachers are needed to be friendly so that they can properly understand the mental
feelings of their students. This will helps them in acknowledging the skills of their students along
with providing them specific direction. Beside this to influence students in a proper manner, a
teacher is required to have good leadership skills and qualities. This will benefits them in
sustaining a strong bond with their students (Levin, J. and Nolan, J. F., 2014).
In UK, there are different requirements to be a professional teacher either in a school or
college. Profession related with teaching needs high quality candidates that are capable to
manage difficult situation with ease. Some academic institutes require high professional
standards than other education places but some of these qualification requirements are common
in all places. In this respect, qualifications of a professional teacher are mentioned beneath:
ď‚· To be a postgraduate teacher, an individual is required to have a certified undergraduate
degree which must be awarded by higher educational providers in Wales or England or
any other equivalent qualification given by a recognised university.
ď‚· A person is needed to attain standard equivalent for grade C/4 or more, in GCSE exams
in mathematics and English.
ď‚· To be a qualified primary teacher, an individual must have standard equivalent to grade
C/4 or higher, in GCSE Science examination.
ď‚· Also, a person must have to pass professional skill tests related with literacy and
numeracy before initiating training to be a teacher. In UK, a person is required to pass
these tests before interview. Also, to give these tests, it is important for candidates to fill
up and receive back UCAS training application (Van Driel, J. H. and Berry, A., 2012).
ď‚· For teaching shortage subjects, an individual will be required to have SKE course which
is abbreviated as Subject knowledge enhancement course. A person can compete these
course as part time or full time study or may be from distance learning.
There are some legislations which must be followed by an individual to be a professional
teacher, if a person is not able to follow these laws then it will impacts their professionalism in a
considerable manner. In extreme cases, a person can either became unqualified to be a
professional teacher. In this regard, some legislations are mentioned below:
Health and safety at work Act, 1974: According to this act, a teacher is required to take
practicable measures to manage risks in a proper manner. Teachers have a duty to use protective
equipments for themselves and their students while working in labs and fields. If a teacher is not

considering these factors while working with students, that person is not eligible to be a
professional teacher.
Care standard Act, 2004: This Act ensures high protection and care of students while offering
them academic eduction. If a person is aggressive and rude in behaviour then that individual is
not qualified to be a professional teacher. This is because treating students with anger can impact
their mental ability and strength due to which their academic and professional growth can hinder
(Riveros, A., Newton, P. and Burgess, D., 2012).
Teacher plays an essential role in the life and success of students by incorporating good
ethics and values in their mind. Teachers are widely known for their educating role but there are
some other roles which are played by a teacher rather than providing academic education. Some
of the roles of a teacher are mentioned below:
Teaching Knowledge: It is the most common role of a teacher. A curriculum is given to them
and they are required to follow all the guidelines which are mentioned under it. This will benefits
the teacher in providing pertinent knowledge to their students through out the year. A teacher can
play this role by offering lectures, hands -on learning activities or can initiates small group
activities.
Creating classroom environment: Teachers plays a vital role in sustaining a positive
environment in the classroom. As children tries to mimic the actions of their teachers, if a teacher
will be warm and happy, then students will also feel comfortable & happy with him. Class
atmosphere set by a teacher can either be positive or negative. If teacher will became easily
angry then it can impaired the learning process in a considerable manner.
Role modelling: In typical context, teachers do not consider themselves as a role model but they
are role models for their students. As students prefers to spend most of their day time with their
teachers either in a college, school or other academic institute, they starts adopting the habits of
their teachers. Along with teaching, role of a teacher is to provide care and love to their students
so that they can easily share their issues and problems with teachers. As teaching is a respected
profession, it is important for every teacher to play this role in a sincere manner.
Mentoring: It is another important role which is played by teachers either in intentional or
unintentional manner. Mentoring is a process by which a teacher motivates its students to deliver
their best efforts in every field. This will help the students to carry-out educational and other
activities in an enjoyable manner. Role of teacher as a mentor benefits the students in building

high confidence due to which the professionalism of concerned person further enhances
(Stewart, C., 2014).
All professional teachers, specially those teachers which are involved in education of
school students have some academic and non-academic duties. But usually, teachers consider
themselves responsible for academic responsibilities only. In this respects, some academic and
non-academic responsibilities of a professional teacher are mentioned below:
Academic responsibilities: Parents wants their child to be trained by the best teachers. Being a
best teacher means to have proper knowledge about the subject for which a person has attained
qualification. This means that a teacher must be confident to teach their students the required
skills and capabilities. Other academic responsibilities for a teacher is to be dedicated, fair,
facilitator and motivator which is able to attain best out of the students (Sherin, M. G., 2014).
Fulfilling these aspects in a desired manner will accomplish the academic responsibilities of a
teacher.
Non-academic responsibilities: These responsibilities of a teacher are not related with
academics and educational courses. These are different kind of responsibilities which are
important for every professional teacher to perform. This is because, many students spends more
time with their teachers rather than their parents. It is essential for teachers to fulfil their
responsibilities as a parent also by giving love, compassion, care, moral values to the children so
that they can feel valuable. This will improve their mental ability to learn new things easily and
they will became efficient in dealing with difficult situations.
There are various roles and responsibilities of a professional teacher, they are as
following:
Assessment: It is related with defining and communicating learning expectations to the students.
It is the responsibility of a teacher to implement appropriate assessment tools so that continuous
intellectual development of students can be carried out in a proper manner. Beside this giving
homework and assignments to students, evaluating their performance in a timely and fairly
manner are some other responsibilities of a professional teacher.
Professionalism: Another important responsibility of a professional teacher is to punctual so that
official working hours of a school or any other academic institute can be completed in an
appropriate manner. A teacher is required to follow rules, regulations, standards, policies of
educational workplace. Beside this, taking part in a responsible

A teacher which lacks boundaries do not face only ineffectiveness but it also impacts its
professionalism. To earn respect and dignity, it is essential for a teacher to have some
professional boundaries which are mentioned below:
Conversation: A teacher is needed to keep its conversations at professional level that refrain
him from suggestive humour, over interference, personal discussion and profanity etc. A teacher
should not cross its limits while helping students especially in romantic or sexual matter (Bayar,
A., 2014). Instead, they can refer them to school counsellor for these purpose.
Financial: A teacher must set its financial boundaries. This means that a teacher is restricted to
accept any kind of gratitude, favour, gift that can impact their decisions and duties in a
professional manner. If a teacher is accepting any kind of gift form parents or students, then it
will harm its professionalism that will results in loss of reputation.
There are different problems and challenges which are faced by a teacher during planning
& delivery of learning sessions. In this regard, some situations are mentioned below:
Unnecessarily arguments in class: When students argue in class or pass unethical comments on
one another, then this can interrupts the learning session in a considerable manner (Gess-
Newsome, J., 2015). In this situation, it will became difficult for teachers to effectively teach
students.
Unmatched opinions: While conducting a learning session, sometimes a discussion transforms
into arguments and criticism due to which it became difficult for a teacher to manage it properly.
In that case delivery of learning session will fail. To avoid it, teacher is required to train students
so that they can listen other's opinion in a positive manner.
Inactive participation of students: If students will not be interested in learning and
understanding new aspects in a proper manner then this will results in failure of learning
sessions. It will demotivate the teacher to plan and deliver an effective session that can motivate
student in right direction (Postholm, M.B., 2012).
REFLECTION
According to me the main roles a teacher is provide correct an relevant information to the
students and tutors so that they can learn good and gain useful learning. The responsibility of a
professional teacher is to motivate their learners to develop their ability and aspiration to learn.
After analysing this information, there is a student learn some welcoming words in Romania so
according to me the responsibility of mine is provide accurate information about Romanian

language and pronunciation of different words. So that the individual and learner can learn
correct things and speak them correctly in front of people and others where the individual
required. I can provide some work to the learner in starting phase like learn about the alphabet of
Romanian language so that it is easy to make words and write sentence. With it, the individual
can make its base strong and easily learn about the various things of it.
According to me if I am a teacher than I firstly I take a taste of the individual who come
learn and gain knowledge about a specific language. In can conscious about the learning
capacity of the individual that he learnt easily and there is any difficulty to learn and remember
any thing. I will not only check his learning capacity but also the ability of him so that I can learn
some extra things like, write a sentences and small paragraphs in Romanian language. When I
learn him some words and spelling of this language then next day I will ask him about those
words with their meanings that he will know about the mean of them or not. This help him in
showing a cl;earn image of his knowledge.
I organise weekly and quarterly text so that I can also analyse his knowledge and
learning that he learnt some thing or not. I will not showing strictness to him be a friend and as a
family member, I will treat him for education and learning. I will always motivate him whenever
he will be weak in learn and not complete his work on time. I will also provide him some home
work so that he can revise his work at home and make improvement in his learning. In each
situation I will motivate him and never feel him disappointed by making comparison with others.
So that he always feel motivated and easily learn Romanian language.
CONCLUSION
From above mentioned report, it has been concluded that to be a good teacher a person is
needed to have patience and appropriate qualifications. This will helps them in performing their
roles and responsibilities in a proper manner. There are different academic qualifications which
are required by a person to became a professional teacher.
