Ability to Formulate a Research Question_2
Task 1
1.1 Describe the 2 theoretical perspectives behind research
A theoretical perspective in research can be defined as a set of assumptions about reality
that helps the researcher in understanding by informing the research questions. It is important
within a research because it allows the researcher to organize their thoughts as well as thoughts
and make the same clear to other people as well (Barr and Dowding, 2019). Theoretical
perspectives are of importance in research and a researcher can use different theoretical
perspectives in order to frame research questions, conduct research as well as analyze the results
effectively. There are different types of theoretical perspectives, two of which are explained
below–
The Functionalist Perspective – This perspective is also known as functionalism
perspective and was proposed by Durkheim. The main interest of Durkheim was in how does a
society maintain stability and how could social order be possible. Under this type of perspective,
societies are assumed to function collectively and maintain stability. The various parts of the
society work together so that an overall equilibrium is maintained. The respective perspective
looks at the society through a macro level and thus broadly focuses on the social structures that
are responsible for shaping the society on the whole. It can be said that functionalism is very
important and looks at the different aspects of the society individually and this helps in
understanding how it functions as a whole (Boamah and et.al., 2018). The functionalist theory
combines all of these aspects of the society in order to meet the needs of the individuals and
make sure that the society remains balanced.
The Interactionist Perspective This particular perspective was developed and
proposed by George Herbert Mead. The interactionalist approach focuses on developing an
understanding of how meaning is generated through different processes of social interaction.
This perspective assumes that meaning is derived from social interactionism from every day
(Donnelly, 2017). Interactionalist perspective involves the study of how individuals shape the
society and are shaped by the society through meaning that arise through interactions in an
effective manner. The way in which people behave with each other is included in this
perspective. The interactionalist perspective recognizes both biological as well as environmental

factors are important in the development of language. There are different factors that shape the
society and the way through which meanings arise in the society.
1.2 Develop a research question
What is the impact of Effective Leadership in providing proper Health and Social Care to
individuals?
1.3 Justify the theoretical perspective chosen to answer your research question
The theoretical perspective that is chosen to answer the research questions is the
interactionalist perspective. This is because the theoretical perspective will help in developing
the meaning about the different processes of social interaction (Gandolfi and Stone, 2017). This
is because the respective perspective will focus on individuals rather than categorizing them into
different groups. Effective leadership is important and can help the leaders in understanding and
comparing the different ways in which people act with each other. The social construction can
also be understood in an effective manner.
1.4 Critically review appropriate literature
Effective leadership can be defined as the way in which a leader within an organization
and directs the employees of the company to achieve the goals as well as objectives. Effective
leaders encourage their team members to share ideas and thoughts during the decision-making
process. They have the ability to influence others and encourage risk taking and innovation
among the team members. it can be said that effective leadership is important because it brings
together different people across the different departments. Health and social care is a wide field
and effective leaders within health and social care emphasize constantly on the high quality, safe
as well as compassionate care is provided to the people. This is kept as their main priority and
therefore, they work towards achieving the same (Glasby, 2017). Different people within the
society have different health care as well as social needs and therefore, it is important to address
the same in such a way that the needs of each of the individuals is addressed in an effective
manner. Effective leaders in health services emphasise always that secure, high quality,
compassionate care is the pinnacle precedence. They make sure that the voice of patients is
consistently heard at each degree; affected person enjoy, worries, wishes and comments (high
quality and bad) are always attended to.
