INTRODUCTION
Academic Reflection refers to the way in which the use of reflection can be made and
therefore a recount of experience in the past can be made in a highly effective manner. In this
report, a detailed discussion the use of Academic Reflection will be made (Barrineau and et.al.,
2016). In this assignment, a detailed focus will be put on the Use of a Reflective Model in order
to reflect on the past experience in a highly effective manner. Additionally, a specific analysis on
the Case Study to study on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People will be made as a
part of this assignment.
MAIN BODY
Part one
Scenario- I am a Student Nurse who is studying Nursing in a college in Australia. As a
part of regular assignments which are given to us in the college we are required to make sure that
we can make the use of these assignments to develop our learning in a right way. One of our
assignments will require us to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. Therefore,
I have to make sure that I am able to develop appropriate skills and competencies in a right way
which will help me a lot in interacting with these people in a proper manner.
Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle-
This cycle is very useful in order to reflect back in a highly effective manner on the past
experience (Guthrie and et.al., 2019). The cycle has different types of stages. Its use can be made
by a person so that a detailed reflection can be made on the past experience and thus this can be
useful for a person who is reading it. A detailed explanation of these stages can be made in the
following manner-
Description- This refers to the description of the situation in detail. It is quite necessary
because the situation has to be described in detail in order to ensure that a reflection can be done
on it (Kaufmann, 2018). As a Nurse, I have to interact with these people. I have to understand
their situation properly. I have to research on them and collect all the information related with
them by interacting with the people who lived in the areas where they live. This will help me a
lot in understanding the needs and requirements of these people.
Feelings- This refers to the feelings which can be incurred during the experience. It is
also quite crucial because it is necessary to identify the feelings as a part of reflection. As a
Nurse, I have positive feelings while interacting with these people. This was so because these
people are quite cooperative in nature and I think that they will cooperate with us which will
allow us to provide the required help to them.
