How does complying with anti-discrimination legislation ensure cultural
safety to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and their
families?
Discrimination is majorly faced by the group of people who are in minority, the same
manner is the Torres strait islander children and their families. In presence of anti-
discrimination legislation, it is made sure that each and every individual of any race, colour,
descent, national or ethnic origin is treated fairly and equality in opportunities is promoted.
The initiative of Betty to make space and get suggestions for the Aboriginal and/or Torres
Strait Islander people at the centre can ensure that each and every individual is treated fairly
and so is their culture and cultural values.
Explain how the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 would ensure cultural
safety for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and their
families at the child care centre.
According to the disability discrimination Act 1992, an individual with any level of
disability should be equally to the ones who are perfectly abled, also protects them from
discrimination. Under the same the children and families of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait
Islander shall be treated equally to others irrespective of their number at the centre. The
suggestions which Betty has been working on to involve and include at the care centre for the
aboriginal group of people will be helpful in spreading awareness about them in the centre at
the same point understanding and celebrating their rituals and festive would spread awareness
among the other people, ensuring their culture is shared-celebrated-valued and can ensure the
cultural safety for the Torres Strait Islander people.
Explain how the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 would ensure cultural
safety for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
The Racial Discrimination Act 1975 makes it unlawful for any individual to be discriminated
on the basis of their colour, race, origin and nationality including their citizenship, to ensure
the cultural safety of the aboriginal and/or Torres strait islander people- their involvement at
the care centre can be of great help. When the community members share suggestions for the
care centre the information about the act and about the different culture of the aboriginal

community can be shared which can be helpful in directly sharing about their beliefs and
system such that they are valued and everyone treats them right. The direct idea about sharing
and spreading the awareness about the act and about the culture of the group with all other
members can promote about them and maintain cultural safety of the group under the racial
discrimination act 1975.
What advice would you give Betty about involving Aboriginal and/or
Torres Strait Islander people to be involved in the planning process for the
child care centre?
Betty is in the initial phase of starting up with the child care centre for her
community; a community is number of people staying-working together for the common
goal, for the betterment of all. She understands the importance of suggestions and has
considered the same from the people, my advice would be she should involve the heads or the
representatives of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in the planning process
of the child care centre. As she plans to take suggestions to involve other Aboriginal and/or
Torres Strait Islander people in the planning for the childcare centre and the delivery of
services, it is important to understand things from their perspective and that can be only
helped either with thorough research or one who has experienced about it, for which the
representative suits best.
What advice would you give Betty on encouraging employment of
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to work in the childcare
centre?
Betty intends to involve other Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in the
planning for the childcare centre which can be beneficial in the delivery of services when the
centre is active, the idea behind the same is to ensure cultural safety such that no
discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, descent, national or ethnic origin, one of the
best way to achieve the same is by employing the people from the same community in the
front office so that everyone inside and outside the care centre can understand and see their
valuable contribution to the centre and eventually will boost the morale of the people of
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander group.
