1. My personal contribution to the topic selection, problem definition, research
question, writing of topic approval submission, and team charter. How I
experienced this and what I learnt from it.
I have recently completed my business research on the evaluation of the trends of
production sustainability in the Mining Industry of Australia. I have chosen the topic as this
mining industry in recent times has become one of the major industries in Australia and the
production trends and sustainability in this industry is changing toward the economy of the
country. Consideration of the environmental factors and their management has also become an
indispensable element in the mining industry. I have experienced that, there are very few
researches that have been carried out on the evaluation of the sustainability and production trends
in the mining industry in this country. Hence, I felt the requirement of further research on this
topic for gaining knowledge on the subject. I have identified several mining organizations in the
country and also evidenced that there is an alarming increase in the rate of metal and mining
extractions from the year 2011 to 2016 (Lodhia and Martin, 2014).
During the completion of the project, I have defined the problem regarding the challenges
that are faced due to the presence of barriers in the pathway of innovation in the mining
procedures. Reduction of waste materials and emission intensity is among the major problems
that have been identified in the mining sector of Australia (Bayari, 2016). For framing the
research question I have greatly depended on the research aims and general and specific research
objectives. During the process of framing the research aims, objectives, questions and I have
faced several difficulties that were easily solved with the support of my teachers. With the help

have successfully completed the project.
2. My personal contribution to the literature review report, i.e. search process,
summarizing of relevant articles, designing the outline/argument/structure of the
literature review, writing up the literature review. How I experienced this and what
I learnt from it.
According to Fletcher (2016), literature review refers to the comprehensive summary of
previously conducted researches on a particular subject of interest. In my opinion for the
preparation of a valid and authentic literature review information must be collected from relevant
and authentic books, journal articles, scholarly article and peer-reviewed articles. On the other
hand, information from other relevant sources such as business reports, government reports, and
newspaper publications can be also regarded as authentic information for conducting a research
(Palinkas et al., 2013). For completion of the project on the trends of production and
sustainability in the mining industry of Australia, I have collected information from peer-
reviewed journal articles, relevant books, business reports and government reports. While
collecting the data I have greatly depended on the online searching databases like Google
Scholar and NCBI. I have collected information from the internet sources and sorted them based
on their publication year. I have only chosen articles that have been published in the last 7 years.
I believe that the incorporation of recent publications in the literature review increases the
reliability and validity of the research findings. While summarizing the relevant articles I have
chosen those articles only for which I was able to collect the full paper.

My teachers have guided me regarding the structure f the literature review. I have also
depended on the design of various research papers for the development of the literature review of
the present research. From the literature search and preparation of the literature review, I have
learnt that research skill is very important for writing a literature review. I have also felt that the
results of the previous researches help in defining the research problem. By preparing the
literature review I can compare the results of different research articles on the topic and find out
the gap in the literature on which further research can be carried out.
3. My personal contribution to the research methodology report, i.e. my role in
discussions about methods, sampling, questionnaire design, data collection,
analysis and interpretation. How I experienced this and what I learnt from it.
While making decisions regarding the research methodology I have depended on my
critical thinking ability. As explained by Kumar (2014), the research strategy and design must be
selected on the basis of the research questions. While selecting a particular research strategy and
research design, I have done detailed research on various research designs and strategies that are
available and can be applied in research. I have also experienced that there are specific research
approaches, philosophies and data collection procedures that also determines what research
strategy must be applied in particular research. I have discussed with my teachers and
supervisors regarding the applicability of the specific research designs, approaches and
strategies. Keeping a synergy with the reeearch questions, aims and objectives I have framed the
questionnaires. I have discussed with my teachers regarding the difficulties that could be faced
during the collection of data and what strategies can be implemented for the mitigation of the
challenges. According to Sanders (2018), communication skill is very important for collecting

data from primary research. From my contribution to the methodology section of the research, I
have learnt that data analysis is critical and one of the most important parts of a research project.
Based on the analysis of the data, research findings are achieved and interpreted.
4. My reflections on the research experience, insights I gained, and any issues,
struggles, challenges, synergies I experienced, individually and in the teamwork
While participating in the research project I have faced numerous challenges due to my
weak communication skill. At times due to my weak time management skill I have failed to
complete different parts of the project within a determined period of time. While developing the
research questions the maintenance of synergy with the already developed research aims and
objectives is very important (Leung, 2015). I have also kept synergy with the project
requirements as mentioned in the student guide for the project while documenting my findings in
the form of the project. In the research project cooperation of the researcher with the respondants
is a very important factor as it determines the timely completion of data collection in a research
(McCusker and Gunaydin, 2014). I believe that good time management skills of the researcher is
critical for completing the research project within a predetermined time. I have experienced a
organizations of the research findings and the collected data is very important for maintaining the
overall presentation of a research project. I individually felt difficulty while conducting
multitasking operations by collecting information from different sources and checking for their
relevancy with the particular topic. However, with the help of the peers and the teachers, I was
able to mitigate the challenges with ease.

5. My statement indicating which sections of this research project I personally
wrote and what you learned from this experience.
Within the overall project, I have conducted research on different parts by allocationg
time and preparing a chart where I have mentioned time allocation for each part of the project.
As my time management skill is weak, such practice has helped me to overcome the situation to
some extent. I have also individually conducted researches on the background of the mining and
trends in production and sustainability. In the introduction section, I have written the various
mining trends in different metal mining including Bauxite, Nickel, and Black coal in Australia. I
have also written up the present challenges that are faced by the mining organizations in the
country. In the literature review section, I have written the impacts that that mining industry has
on the environment of Australia. I have also provided information regarding various factors that
influence sustainable development in the Australian mining industry. In the methodology part of
the research, I have researched on the research strategy, research design and research approach
and hence written up these portions of the assignment. I have also collected information
regarding the various data collection methods available and actively participated in the
formulation of the questionnaires and documented them in the methodology section. From this
experience, I have learnt how to write up academic articles and how to utilize critical thinking
ability while writing a literature review and this knowledge would help me in my future research
projects.
