REFLECTIVE RESEARCH PROJECT
INTRODUCTION
This reflection report is in accumulation of all my experiences that led to the
development of summarizing and public speaking and public presentation skills and their
applications when it comes to day-to-day life as well as employability structure. in today's active
competition these two skills are must have as they establishes an outline for how others perceive
you. The deflection is done using Gibbs model of self-reflection which revolves around six
stages. The first stage of Gibbs reflective cycle is description of the experience that led to the
development of that particular skill. The second stage of this model revolves around the thoughts
and feelings that originated during the experience which led to the development of summarizing
and public speaking skills for me. The third step of Graham Gibbs model of self-reflection
revolves around evaluation of the particular experience including the both good and bad aspects
of the situation. The four step of this reflective model revolves around analysis of the situation
followed by the fifth stage that is based on conclusion which are drawn on the basis of learnings
along with realization of what could have been done differently. The last stage of this reflective
cycle revolves around the accumulation of the results drawn on previous five stages and using
them to form an action plan focusing on how would I deal if I ever come across a similar
situation in future.

REFLECTIVE REPORT
This report revolves around the acquisition of two of the most important skills that I
believe will help me throughout the course of my life which are summarizing along with public
speak in and the understanding of giving presentations. This report revolves around the
theoretical knowledge that I learnt while attending classes along with the understanding of the
topics that I already had because of my keen interest in it (Borkar 2020). I am using the Gibbs
model of self-analysis and order to establish and outline for a better understanding and
evaluation of reflective cycles focusing on the day-to-day life and future employability structure.
The gives model of reflective cycle is based on six stages and I am going to use all of the six
stages to explain both of the skills in evaluating the information associated with that in order to
draw reliable results.
The first stage of Gibbs reflective cycle is description. This stage revolves around the
description of the experience which led to the development of the concerned skills. I am going to
discuss my experience about acquisition of both of the skills that are mentioned above. The first
skill is summarizing. I had the basic understanding of summarizing way back before I visited and
attended the classroom. I always had an interest in how I can make the things I say more
effective and enhance the audience engagement by improving the quality of content that I utter.
After a bit of research that I conducted at my personal level I came across the concept of
summarizing(Sagan 2016). I was deeply interested in how this concept allows you to speak and
cover a huge variety of information using very few words. This helps in development of
audience engagement by enhancing the quality of the overall content increases drastically. using
this methodology of conveying information, I was able to improve the quality of communication
that I had with my I teachers along with during my presentations. With time during my time at

classroom made me realize that summarizing as a skill is more efficient if someone knows the
concept of public speaking and is confident enough to do so. Although I used to think that I am
master of summarizing during the learning I received from models I learnt a lot about
summarizing as well and I received all the theoretical knowledge about the concept of public
speaking as well as write an effective way of giving a presentation confidently in front of a
crowd.
The second stage of Gibbs reflective cycle is thoughts and feelings about the learning
experience that I had associated with the acquisition of these two skills. The only thoughts that I
had during my learning experience of these two skills was how much these two skills will help
me in my future employability structure. I always had problem with public speaking and before
developing an understanding of how important public speaking is, I never even try to do so out
of my fear of stage. During the learning and experiencing part I was not comfortable in the
beginning as well. In the modulus that I acquired during my class room I came across all the
necessary theoretical knowledge that I needed to enhance my public speaking skills and
combining them with summarizing skills in order to deliver a flawless presentation. But during
the time of my first presentation, I felt nervous because for me it was stepping outside of my
comfort zone. But in my first presentation I used all the knowledge that I gained throughout my
experience in classroom and the presentation came out to be pretty good (Zhao & Lu 2019).
Everyone appreciated the efforts and my confidence boosted. It was one of the best feelings that
I’ve ever experienced.
The third stage of Gibbs reflective cycle revolves around the methodology of evaluation
of the overall experience considering both the positive and negative aspects of the story. During
my learning at classroom, I acquired all the theoretical knowledge that I needed to know

regarding the development of these two skills. Using the modulus, I even learnt about the
importance of these two skills when it comes to the future employability purposes. The only
thing that I deeply believed was missing from the course was active practice in order to brush the
basics of these skills more. Presentation skills are something that you cannot just simply
developed on the basis of theoretical knowledge that you have gained or marked up. I required
active practice sessions in order to master the presentation skills and with every interaction that I
had with the crowd my skills got better. Even though the theoretical knowledge that I gained
during the time of my classroom established the outline for growth of these two skills I strongly
believe that it was my active practices that helped me in gaining the mastery over these two
skills. I had to take part in in different campaigns in order to overcome my fear of public
speaking. So therefore, the positive aspect of my learning in the classrooms where I was
provided with all the theoretical knowledge about the subject where is the positive aspect of the
same situation was, I had to put efforts at other places in order to learn and brush the skills using
the practical application of the theoretical knowledge that I gained by studying the models.
The fourth stage of Graham Gibbs model of self-reflection revolves around analysis of
the situation in order to make sense and establish a strong outline for drawing conclusions in the
next stage. If I look back at the situation and analyze the positive and negative aspects, I believe
that the positive aspects of the situation overshadow the one or two obstacles that I had during
my time of learning. I had a keen interest in summarizing and during the time I spent in the
classroom I learn about how I can accumulate it with public speaking skills and carry on my
interest towards development of a skill that will help me for the rest of my life and therefore the
overall skills and knowledge that are acquired with the help of module and my time at classroom

really helped in making me step out of my comfort zone and building up a level of confidence in
me and I will always be grateful that I got to learn these two skills.
The fifth stage of Gibbs reflective cycle focuses on drawing conclusions based on the
analysis and the evaluation of thoughts feelings regarding the overall experience that held in
acquisition of the skills. Considering the future employability criteria, I notice the trend that the
employees are now asking for skill sets that were not even considered a few decades back. With
introduction of artificial intelligence and its countless applications a lot of people have already
lost their job because the digital technology is now able to do the work that they used to do.
Therefore, in order to safeguard myself from the risk arising in future when it comes to
employability structure I need to acquire as many skills as possible in order to be fully prepared
against all the odds (Lee & Yeh 2019). Structure can also be increasing competition, excessive
development of Technology over time and the establishment of employability criteria on
dynamics which are constantly changing. In order to be prepared against these threads I strongly
believe that acquisition of summarizing and with regards to my employability structure (Taran et
al 2018). Every organization that I have dream to be a part of, have employability criteria that
includes both of these skills. Apart from the employability criteria if I get selected in an
organization the accumulation of these two skills will help me outshine my competition within
the convention of that particular organization. I believe that acquisition of these two skills is one
of the strongest steps towards my future employability assurance and these two skills will help
me throughout my life.

CONCLUSION
This reflective report concludes that summarizing and public speak in along with public
presentation two of the most important skills that a person can learn that not only helps in day-to-
day life but also helps and future employability. This report concludes that in this world where
everyone has so much to do and so much to learn the skill of summarizing comes in handy. The
ability to make people understand a very use concept using few but appropriate words can really
be an impressive skill not only in day today life but when it comes to employment, this skill
establishes an outline for or how much people are actually paying attention towards you. Public
speaking is a very essential skill because it reflects the inner confidence and leadership quality of
an individual. Combined with the skill of public presentation and individual can influence a lot
of people with this skill. The accumulation of public school and summarizing helps in individual
in giving a presentation that covers a lot of factors using a wise choice of words is it tool to make
that presentation more effective and influence the overall result of the campaign more.
