Global events are known as World Cups, Olympic Games, cultural festivals or more which have
apart unities for expanding growth and development in countries. There are several hosts which
have an objective to ensure that the events are acting as catalyst for local development (Apiola
and Laakso, 2019). There is need of leveraging long term infrastructure investments and enhance
trade and tourism. It also promotes community development and creates jobs.
According to OECD, global events are defined as the events of limited duration which have a
global reach and they need public investment.

While organising a global event of sports, an important feature is present on which
companies focuses. This is driven by different business corporations in context of marketing,
global media, sports apparel and event organising. When countries are bidding for global events,
they consider size and level of participation of individuals. Moreover, it does also evaluated that
how much revenue company can make by organising the global events. For example, Olympics
and FIFA World Cup are mega events and if a country bids for this then revenue which they can
generate is higher. On the other hand, for event like commonwealth games or cricket, the
involvement of people will be low and revenue generated by country will also decrease.
There are certain cities chosen for launching campaigns and hosting a major sport event. There is
economic as well as political pressure on countries when hosting a big major sports event
(Ertman, 2017). It is insured that bids are done properly and countries are not in loss. the concept
of Bids focus upon having a positive future vision and these are called for reckoning when goals
are accomplished.

that put negative impact of people. It may become a reason of lung and hearty related disease in
people within country. Sports events such as Olympic has great association with facilities related
to sports available within host country as it is necessary to be physically fit. The impact of global
events on health and social causes can be understood with the following points:
Legacy of sports facility-
There are ample of intangible legacies such as cultural, social, economical elements are
associated with Olympics. It is analysed that it also has significant influence over health and
social care of people. Nowadays people are more conscious about health thus they enjoy games
and spots. It is consider as the best way to take care of physical as well as mental health.
Perception of people has changed reason being they willingly take part in events such like
Olympics and Commonwealth as there are several games are played in these sports events. It is
monitored that these programs has great health legacy for people of hosting nation that will
provide them happiness and social care too(Hess, 2018). With this, they got a chance to interact
with each other even with the people of other nations that enhance socialisation among citizens
of different countries. It needs huge amount to organize an event like Olympic that is organized
at global level. It is a sports event that has to aimed to make positive impact on health rather
socio- cultural and economic impacts. Games help in physical development of citizens not of
host country but also the surrounding nations. It motivates people to stay physically active in
order to perform various tasks in an efficient manner. Olympic is a sporting event, there are
various kind of games are organized in which teams of different countries take part. Thus, it has
become as a symbol of games that are not only essential for physical health but also helps to
keep a personal stable and calm by provide positive wives. So, there are ample of health and
social care legacy. Nowadays, due to change in the perception of people they take sports
necessary to stay active and fit. They consider it as an important part of life. Although, there are
several legacies that are intangible associated with global events but the impact of health legacy

is not visible at large level till now. It is monitored that it leaves substantial impact over health
and social care of people within hosting country.
Issues related to health and safety-
There are ample of sports events such as Olympics that are conducted at international
level. It needs a lot of investment to prepare necessary infrastructure and provide appropriate
facilities to audience as well as players who visit the country during event. As it is organized at
global level not only domestic but also international people take part in it thus it is important for
hosting nation to ensure quality facilities to people. Hosting nation needs to prepare stadium and
necessary infrastructure for the feasibility of players. It also impacted the image of nation
worldwide. For instance United States considers most suitable country for Olympics that is a
reason it has been hosted the event nearly four times ( Kapran 2016). It significantly affects the
health and safety measures within country thus it is the responsibility of authorities of hosting
nations to ensure the security during events. It is analysed that during constructing facilities for
Olympics some workers died due to electric shock. In addition, there are also cases of accidents
and burrier of labour during the event. In addition, during games different teams compete with
each other in order to win the game it may cause major injuries to players that may lead to
deaths. It is the duty of host nation to ensure safety of athletes by providing them proper
ambiance and arrange necessary medical checkups before and during event. Further,
environmental issues such as climate change and more may become a cause of health issues to
audience as well as players. It is also monitored that sometimes athletes are involved in doping
and inhale drugs to perform better during games. It is unauthorized practice and may cause major
medical issues to people (McManus and Rook, 2019). During these events a lot of travellers visit
to the hosting nation here responsibility arise to the government of nation. It is analysed that
there are several issues related to security arise during the sports events such as climate changes,
unavailability of necessary facilities and so on. In addition, there is several health issues may
arise due to Olympics. Further, there is also probability of terrorist attacks during huge gathering.
Therefore, it may prove hazardous for health and security measures of people.
Issues related to public health risk-
There are numerous health related threats during global events. As during these games
there are ample of people from different countries come together and enjoy with each other. So,
here is higher probability to transmit an infectious disease from one person to another thus

people health is on higher risk during these events. If people who have lower immunity come in
contact with those who are suffering with some infectious issues such as influenza then it may
cause major health issues (Matteson, Anderson and Boyden, 2016). To prevent this, higher
authorities need to take appropriate precautions to protect public and provide them good standard
of living. During Olympics resources available within country are also misuse which may cause
environment disruption. Sometimes, to organize events at wide level and to prepare appropriate
infrastructure natural resources such as trees and others are hampered. It may cause ample of
environmental problems which will create several heart, lungs related issues to people. In
addition, travellers who visit the host country harm atmosphere by misusing available resources.
So, it is the duty of administration to take set guidelines in order to protect environment. Air
pollution during Olympics may put the health of travellers as well as players at higher risk. Thus,
government of host nation takes several initiatives to protect resources available within nation.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) has taken steps to ensure safety of environment during
global sports events (Phillips Galloway and Uccelli, 2019). In addition, humidity is the major
concern during summer events. Hence, Olympic is consider goods for economy but it also put
substantial impact on health of people.
From above discussion, it is analysed that global events are helpful in revenue as well as
job creation. It also helps to increase in standard of living of hosting nation and present it as a
strong country worldwide but it also it adversely affect the health of audience as well as players.
It may cause several security related issues. In addition, due to these games sometime major
issues related to public health can arise that need to be control by higher authorities.
Recommendations-
There are ample of ways that need to adopt by hosting companies to organize global
events at wide level. These are necessary to minimize the negative impacts of sports events on
health & overall society and to enhance societal well being. Some of the crucial suggestions are
discussed below:
 It is necessary for the host country to analyse their environmental condition, facilities
before conducting Olympics. They need to make appropriate bid so that they get a chance
to organize an event at global level. It helps to create strong image of nation among
international audience. In addition, administration is required to make necessary security
measures to protect the health of people as it is an international event in which not only

domestic but also international audience take part. Thus, it is significant to take
appropriate steps for the better of society and overall economy.
 In addition, infrastructure is necessary to provide comfort to visitors as well as players.
So, higher authorities are required to make sure proper maintenance of building and
stadium. They also need to do security check up of travellers who visit the country during
games and take care of hygiene and cleanliness.
 They need to set appropriate guidelines to protect environment as well as available
resources. Air pollution during global events may cause health issues to people so that
they are required to undertake necessary measures to protect atmosphere. Further, they
also need to carry out proper screening before give entrance to visitors inside stadium
along with this medical facility should be available within country.

CONCLUSION
From above stated points, it is monitored that global events are essential for overall
growth and development of a nation. It helps to inflate revenue by enhancing job opportunities
within country. In addition these events are also helpful to increase in standard of living of
citizens within nation. Discussion has been carried out about the various impacts of sports events
on economy and society that are both positive as well as negative. There are certain functions
such as Olympics which is conducted at international level and significantly affects the health of
people. It is analysed that there is health legacy associated with these events as now people take
sports as an activity that is significant to stay fit. Further, Olympics also put substantial adverse
impact on health of citizens within nation by increasing pollution and overusing of resources.
Moreover, it can be concluded that global events influence economy by increasing tourism on
the another side it also put ample of adverse impact by raising ample of health related issues.
