Introduction
Business management is defined as planning, analysing and organising all the business
activities that are needed to achieve objectives within the set time period. In addition to
this, it is basically managing all the activities in a manner that improve productivity and
profitability of a business. The main objective of this project is to understand the
requirement of academic as well as professional skills for effective business management.
The report will cover challenges faced by students while studying business management.
Along with this, importance of effective academic and professional skills is discussed in
the report. In the last, an action plan is developed which help in improving weaknesses and
help students to gain personal and professional growth.

The key challenges of studying business
management and in professional practice
It is analysed that there are many challenges which students face at
the time of studying business management and to deal with it is
significant in order to maintain performance and gain professional
as well as personal growth. The challenges are discussed below:
 Researching: One of the challenge is researching as it is a time
consuming procedure and task for students to collect
information.
 Academic writing: At the time of academic writing, students
encounter many issues as there is increase in number of written
assignment assigned to students and is required to be completed
by them in short span of time.

difficult for students to manage and prioritising their
work as well as activities while handling their personal
work.

while working and performing in a team. It is determined
that it is difficult for them to coordinate with other team

professional skills development
 It is significant for students to have some set of skills as it assists them
to develop alternative way of thinking and resolving task. In addition
to this, it also helps them to make appropriate decisions and developing
confidence which help them in their personal and professional growth.

 Communication skills: It is one of the important skill that assist
students to interact with other and communicate their opinions and
thoughts in an effective manner.
 Leadership: It is important for students to learn and improve their
leadership skills so that they can motivate others and develop
relationships in teams which further leads to attainment of objectives.

There are many differences and similarities between skills which can assist students to gain
understanding about how the skills can be used to improve their academic and professional skills. the
differences and similarities among professional and academic skills is discussed below:
Academic skills
Similarities between research and prioritising work:
 It is analysed that skills of research and prioritising work are similar to each other as both the
skills need time.

the personal life of students but is only be advantageous in the academic sense.

Similarities between communication and leadership:
 Communication is one of the important skills for students as it help them to interact and
maintain effective relationship with others. Leadership allow an individual to motivate,
guide other due to which a string relationship is developed with others. It is analysed that
both the communication and leadership skills is required in order to complete the task.
Difference between Leadership and Communication:
 One of the major difference among communication and leadership is leadership assist to
guide and motivate students to complete the task whereas communication skills help to
ensure clarity of roles and responsibilities.

 One of my major weakness is ineffective
time management that results in declining
my efficiency and not meeting with
deadlines.
 It is analysed by me that I lack motivation
when dealt with multiple activities in short
span of time.
 I tend to get stressed when working under
pressure that further decline my ability to
perform task on time period.

 I have the opportunity to put myself in the
stressful condition as it will help me to
handle working in a proper and effective
manner. Along with this, it will help me to
enhance the level of productivity to perform
the task.

as it assist to reduce stress and decline

 High amount of stress can directly lead to
misbalancing in my professional and
personal life.
 Due to high competition, I require to gain
valuable skills on time as well as utilize
them effectively to gain an advantage.

For improving and overcoming my weaknesses, I have developed an action plan which are
as follows:
 Short-term: In order to improve my time management skills, it is significant for me to
participate in the time bound activities. It will help me learn and improve my time
management skills and manage activities effectively.
 Medium-term: For improving my time management skills, it will develop a track of my
progress in attaining them and ensure completion on time. Along with this, I need to
manage every activity by categorising it into sub-activities.
 Long-term: In order to enhance time management skills, I will start multitasking as it
help me to work in stress and prioritize my work as per the given time periods.
Furthermore, I will emphasis on taking breaks among task in order to not get de-
motived and perform complex multiple situation.

Conclusion
From the respective presentation, it has been concluded that there are many challenges
faced by students while studying business management that is team work, researching,
prioritising the work and many more. It is analysed that there are various skills required for
gaining personal and professional growth that is communication, time management,
leadership, problem solving and many more. Moreover, it is determined that it is important
for students to develop an action plan as it help them to overcome with the weaknesses and
gain both personal as well as professional growth.
