INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development both are different terms because personal
development refers to develop skills and attributes for personal benefits (Eichenberger, 2017).
Whereas professional development is refers to develop skills and behaviour in their professions.
Both are very necessary for development of person's career because it plays a very important role
in career growth of students. Every person has goals that they divide into timescale so that they
can achieve them effectively. Person can be categorized their goals and targets into three
categories that are short, medium, long term goals. In this report, it covers a personal
development plan that helps to complete or achieve the targets effectively.

Concept of personal and professional development
Professional development is the term in which person is developing skills and knowledge
that helps to understand the job and improve their performance accordingly. Professional
development really helpful in accomplishing goals and objectives of particular job roles and
responsibilities (Briceland and et. al). In nowadays organisation need talented employees that are
multitasking, having skills that helps to perform job effectively and efficiently. So for employees
it becomes necessary that they develop some important skills that make them different from
others and treated as talented employees. Professional development can be done with the help of
classroom based learnings, coaching, mentoring, etc.
Personal development is the term that refers to develop skills and knowledge for their
personality. It is beneficial for in and out of workplace. Personal development is very necessary
for organisation that they get talented employees who have skills and talents to manage
themselves and organisation functions. Personal development is the activity in which person try
to improve their existing skills and generate new skills that is helpful for organisation as well as
their personality. It is life long process in which people try to maximize their potential. It can be
start after few months of birth of the child. Firstly they learn from their parents and then from
schools. After facing situations they gained some experience in which they learn many skills and
knowledge that helps in their career growth. Because personal development is very basic and
necessary for each and every child.

Both are interlinked with each other because personal and professional development
necessary for career growth. Without personal and professional development, no single person
can achieve their targets in organisation and does not perform well in organisation (PLACE).
Discussion of short term goals with examples
When person is divide their goals into timescale then they firstly make short term goals
which have small period of time. Short term goals taking less than 2 months. It is prepare for
accomplishment of vision of person. Their vision can only be accomplish with the met of short
term goals. Short term goals helps to divide the task into small things so that person can not
depressed and enjoy and after certain period of time they are feeling exhausting. Short term goals
necessary for attaining long term goals because it sets some roadmap in which person develop
their sets of goals for short time period. It is very helpful when person wants to big change in
their life so they should be make their short term goals (Randall, Edelman and Galliers, 2017).
For example, if a person wants to become government officer then they preparing for exams
from their schools so that they make short term goals that helps to complete their full course. It is
very effective because when a person wants to achieve big and something that they change in
their attitude then they make short term goals so that they can achieve step by step and does not
depressed. For example of a person gets a order that they make 5000 of cookies in 5 days, it
becomes very tough for that person because it looks like very hard. But if the person divide into
small targets that they make 1000 cookies in a single day then they can achieve their days.
Process of short term goals is very effective because person enjoys their targets and they feel that
they achieve something that helps to encourage for next task and project.
In nowadays organisation also make some short term goals for employees so that they
can complete them within time and organisations vision can achieve them. Every organisation
have some vision that they want to become something in future but they bifurcated into mission
and then into objectives so that they can ultimately achieve their desired goals and targets. Short
term goals should be relevant and achievable so that individual in a position that they achieve
them. It becomes more effective when individual get some rewards so that they can motivate or
encourage towards their next goals and targets (Yu and et. al., 2020). For example, a individual
set that they complete their course in 3 months and the person divide their full course into small
parts as person complete each unit in 6 days. It will become effective when person get some
rewards so that individual set that after 6 days he will go for a break of 1 day so that person get
