Task One: Definition of the concept of personal and professional development Personal development plan is used by individuals for identifying their strength andweakness. It consists of several activities which are required for enhancing identity as well asawareness. This method is also used for setting goals and objectives of personal as well asprofessional life. There are several circumstances due to which a person is not able to attain hisor her personal goals. That is why a personal professional development plan is prepared in orderto prepare, evaluate and mentor own requirements regarding a particular profession (Bačová, andet.al, 2017). The professional development consists of managing the improvement within skillsand abilities. It is also used for helping in progress of career as well as formal learning. There areseveral internships as well as apprenticeships which are involved for attending conferences,networking and seminars. These are effectively used by a person to manage the own skills anddevelopment. It helps in managing the abilities required for achieving personal and professionalobjectives of life. There is need for managing the personal and professional development as ithelps for evaluating own needs and requirements for converting weakness into strength. There isresponsibility for developing own skills and attain developmental opportunities. INTRODUCTION
The personal and the professional development is the process of acquiring the skills and
knowledge in respect of the field of study and accordingly they can plan for their career
advancement that can lead to the growth and prosperity of the individual in both the personal and
the professional life. In the current project the conceptual understanding of PDP shall be
developed through the various short, medium and the long term goals in the organization.

Concept of personal and professional development
Personal and professional development of an individual is one in which they shall be
obtaining sufficient knowledge and the skills related to the job they are performing and also
enhancing the overall understanding regarding the job so that the career advancements can be
gained. It shall also be involving the personal development that can be acquired by an individual
building the emotional, mental and the physical quotient of self (Christie and et.al., 2018). There
are various formal and informal trainings that are executed in order to attain the required skills
and boosting the knowledge in the area that the person has managed yo qualify and attain the
speciality.
The learnings in respect of developing the personal and the professional arena of the
individual can be done through the various possible sources like the classroom learnings, e-
learning sessions, tuitions, coaching, consultation programmes, orientation classes and the
mentoring and guidance by the seniors. Through acquiring the necessary skills the individual can
boost the talent such that the capacity are increased in the workplace and thereby the
performance of the company is also boosted. There needs to be the analytical skills so that the
situation can be analysed and also accordingly the person derives the necessary solution and then
the desired results in the organization. Through efficiently learning the various skills and
acquiring the necessary talents in the company shall be leading to solidifying of the personality
and the achievement of the personal growth and development in the required field. It can also be
assessed that the growth in the personality opens an individual to the new opportunities and the
challenges that has to be performed in the routine as well as the business life (Lancer and
Eatough, 2020).

INTRODUCTION
The term PDP is an acronym for personal development plan which is concerned with the
process by which an individual reflect upon their skills, competencies, attributes and
achievements that help in planning for future with regards to the personal, academic and career
development. PDP helps students in several ways such as recognising one's strengths and
weakness, become more effective in monitoring and reviewing their progress and improve their
employability through self reflection. Academic skills or sometimes also referred to as study
skills or study strategies are those habits and talents that is beneficial for academic pursuit such
as research, report writing and presentations (Donaldson and et. al., 2020). Theses skills are
essential for the success in academics and considered significant for acquiring good grades and
beneficial for the learning through out the entire life. Some of these skills are analysis, social,
planning, test taking and technical and communication skills. The further report discuss the
concept of personal and professional development and value of short, medium and long term
goals in the personal and professional development of the students.
Define the concept of personal and professional development
The term personal development is applicable to the life of a person which encompasses
several activities which is aimed at developing or enhancing the potential and capabilities of a
person such as improving employment skills,increasing consciousness, and building wealth.
Personal development helps in facilitating employability, building human capital and enhancing
the quality of life along with realization of one's dreams and ambitions. Personal development is
associated with those skills which are essential in obtaining the desired results both in the job
role a person is performing and life in general. It helps in enhancing the abilities and capabilities
of a person both in and out of the working place (McMorran and Ragupathi, 2020). Personal
development may take place during the entire course of one's life span and is not limited to the
one stage of a person's life, thereby it is an ongoing process. It encompasses both formal and
informal actions intended for developing others in the role such as manager, mentor, guide,
counsellor, coach or teacher and therefore it is not restricted to self help. In the context of
workplace, personal development takes place via methods, programmes, tool and techniques
designed to provide support to the positive personal development at workplace. With the help of
through understanding of what are the desired and aspiration and ways to achieve them, best

INTRODUCTION
The word academic skills can be understood as the core values of a person which is a
collection of habits, talent, time management tools, learning strategies which helps learner to
learn and absorb those trainings. These skills encourage learners to become more productive and
efficient in their work (Amand-Santos, M. S., 2018). This helps to boost confidence to
participate in front of others which includes critical thinking, note-taking skills and many more
which are very important for the success of a person. Personal and professional development
planning is a concept or a process in which action plan is created on the basis of planning, goal
setting, values, reflection and awareness within the context of self-improvement career
education.
MAIN BODY
The concept of personal and professional development plan.
Personal and professional development plan is the process and pursuit of improving
oneself by improving the quality of life through conscious habits and activities. It can be
understood as an official record of the employee’s skills that needs to develop. It is a framework
that supports as a reflection on what they have to achieve and how to go about it (Aunio, P.,
2019). Personal development plan provides a purpose in order to do something towards work it
includes new skills, promotion and qualification. For employees it is a source of inspiration,
discovery and motivation, for managers it can become the basis of personal appraisals in which
they inform about objectives and goals. Sometimes it become a guide rope that keeps individuals
to be focused in development process. Managers in the organisation evaluate how members meet
their objectives, in order to grab opportunities which may encourage individuals to study, learn
and develop themselves. Personal development plan is an investment in the most critical resource
in order to manage life in the best possible way regardless of hurdles and obstacles along the
way. These plans enables a learner to be proactive rather than waiting for things to be happen, he
steps forward by himself in order to make it happen. It work as a self-reflection and draws a road
map by setting goals in life in which a learner thinks about his abilities, creating skills, interest
opportunities, capability or competencies and so on. He put his strength and weakness in front of
the table and try to find methods to overcome the gap in order to become more productive and
efficient in his work life and personal life. They set goals which is based on short term, medium
term and long term goals. It must be considered in the right format and structure which should be
update on the regular basis in order to fulfill the personal and career objectives which required
proper coordination and concentration.
Value of short term goals with examples.
Short term goals is a something which can be done in the near future, it can be today, in a
week, month or a year. These goals needs to accomplish as soon as possible. These goals help an
individual to think about what he can do right away and help him to manage the time. These
goals tend to be small but completion of these goals can lead to big achievements in career and
personal life. Short term goals are need to be actionable and specific so that it can accomplish in
a timely manner (Toe, D. and Et.al., 2020). It is the first step towards the future. The length of

Introduction
Study Skills or most commonly known as the academic skills are the collection of approaches,
learning strategies, study habits and time management tools which helps the learner in acquiring
and absorbing lessons taught by the mentors at educational institute. These skills are taught by
teachers often to obtain good grades and success in the academics as well as useful during the
entire course of life of a learner. Whereas, personal development plan, also recognised by several
names such as individual development plan (IDP), personal enterprise plan (PEP) is the written
documented plan prepared within the context of career, relationship, education and for the self-
improvement based on reflection, goal setting, values and self awareness (Budur, 2020). It is an
action plan which highlights the goals to be achieved classified on the basis of duration, strengths
in the specified areas, areas of improvements and what actions needs to be taken or need to take
changed way towards the realisation of sated goals and objectives. The further report outlines the
value of short, medium and long term gaols along with the value for the development of personal
development plan and its importance in the personal and professional development.
Define the concept of personal and professional development
Personal and professional development is concerned with identifying the skills needed to
accomplish the desired goals and objectives both in the job role and life in general. Personal and
professional development is aimed at improving the talents and capabilities of a person both in
and out the workplace. With the help of through understanding what a person wants to achieve in
near future and how to achieve it, personal and professional developments allows to develop
necessary skills as a best way solution. For instance, there are two persons working in a
marketing department, both of whom are expertise in making effective marketing strategies and
realisation of goals. They both have good communication skills, interpersonal skills and
decisions making powers to make appropriate decisions. However, one of them does not possess
these skills and requires extensive training for the personal development (Purcell, Henriksen and
Spengler, 2019).
On the other hand, professional development is regarded as the developing myself entirely in the
job role which I am performing and finding out the ways to improve them. Professional
development will allow me to enhance necessary skills to perform my job role effectively as
much as possible and is something which will continue throughout my entire course of working
