1.1 INTRODUCTION
Importance of the study: The present study is important as it can assist an individual in
improvising their academic skills. This study will assist in analysing the areas where
improvement is required.
Purpose/aims/objective of the study: The main aim of this study is to develop various
academic and employability skills so that the personal and professional objectives of an
individual can be achieved.
Structure of the study: In the present study discussion will be made related to sort of skills
required and how to overcome the challenges faced in developing these skills.
1.2 FINDINGS
1.2.1 Contribution 1
The contribution of various academic skills is huge and it is really important to develop the
employability and academic skills. Students are being engaged in making use of note taking. In
this they are been involved in making notes so that there reflective thinking can be improvised.
The university library and E-resources are being used so that they can search about different
topics and connect to better ideas (Abegglen, Burns and Sinfield, 2018). It has also been
analysed that essay and report writing is also an essential skill. In this it can assist a student in
exploring about the ideas and concept. In this writing essay can help in making better discussion.
The contribution of these skills are important, it can help a student in developing professionally
as well as personally. Students are also required to develop the skill of making sure that no
plagiarism appears in their work. In this they need to start paraphrasing the content which is of
others. This will assist them in removing the plagiarism and also in University, they will be able
to get better marks which is really necessary (Mehmood and et.al., 2019).

Reflection: I require this skill in order to analyse my own strength as well as weakness.
This skill is also required to analyse opportunities and threats which can be faced by me in
future. Analysis of these aspects is really necessary for my personal as well as professional
growth. I can be able to develop confidence and self-awareness by making use of this skill.
Communication: I need to work upon my communication skill, so that better professional
relationship can be maintained by me in future. I require this skill so that my team working

practices also get improvised. I would be able to solve issues while working team with the help
of effective communication.
Debating (online and classroom): This skill is really necessary for me, so that I can
develop critical thinking. By debating in classroom, I will be able to improve my working with
other students. I will also be able to get clear idea and knowledge about the current matters,
which are becoming topic of discussion (Usher and et.al., 2017).
Presentation: I will require this skill in delivering the effective and engaging presentations
to a variety of audiences. Presenting in front of the audience will also help me in enhancing my
confidence level as it is not easy to speak in front of public. I will also be able to communicate
my thoughts to audience.
Time management: I need to develop this skill as it will assist in better achievement of
goals. It will also help me in being more productive at my studies. By this skill I will be able to
complete my assignment on time which is really necessary as on this basis, I will get better
grades. So time management is an essential skill that I need to develop.
Planning: This skill is required so that I can be able to manage all my activities
successfully. It will assist me in achieving specific goals, which will be set by me. I will be able
to plan future activities and this is really necessary for my professional development.
Revision strategies: I required this skill, as it will assist me in achieving better grades in
examination conducted by university. It will also assist me in having better connection with
ideas, which is really necessary. I will be able to do better in my exams which is also necessary.

What strategies will you use to help you to overcome these challenges?
There are various challenges which can be faced by me in development of these skills.
Like for example I may not have necessary resources to learn about various skills such as
presentation, planning, online debating. I also may not have better research facilities to improvise
these skills. For this I will be engaged in making sure that I discuss all these problems with my
tutor, they will help me in guiding to right path. I will also overcome these issues my making use
of various toolkits, so that I can improvise these skills (Jenaabad, 2017).
What support do you think is available?

Support from my university is available. They organise various workshops and
internships where I can develop these skills. My tutor, team and friends are also there to provide
me support. By their support I can achieve goals.
How will you manage your time and ensure you stay on track?
I will manage my team by prioritising task. The task which is more important will be done
by me on first. This will assist me in ensuring that I am on track.
1.3 CONCLUSION
From the above study it has been summarised that there are various academic skills that
needs to be developed. It included reflection, presentation, planning, time management skills. It
has also been summarised that University also provides assistance to students so that they can
enhance these skills. This has assisted the students in developing professionally as well as
personally. They have also been able to achieve their set target and career growth because of
these skills. It has also been analysed that there were various issues that are being faced to
develop the skills. It has been overcome by making use of support from tutor.
