Discuss: how are you going to overcome your weaknesses and minimise the threats? (approx 100 words)
First, I will set up targets for myself with deadlines and try to achieve them. Inconsistency in positive thinking is
one of my weaknesses and I can do away with it through meditation. I would divide my tasks by creating
routine and setting specific time limits. This way I can avoid paying overdue attention on one thing. To get rid
of my introvert attitude, I would start by opening up to my family members at home and then to my close
friends. I would apply the same technique to get over my weakness in speaking in front of large crowd. When I
am able to overcome my weaknesses, most of the threats can be minimised as well.

Week 2: Structuring your writing
During your lecture and tutorial you will learn how to group ideas and develop paragraphs to give structure to
your academic writing. You can use the outline below as a model, although others will be discussed in your
lectures and tutorials.
Title: Impact of Brexit on Globalization
1.0 An introduction (150 words) [use evidence/ research throughout]
What is your question about? (give the background to your topic)
Include some detail on the topic (narrow your focus; what exactly are you focusing on?) Who are the
key ideas/ people involved/ organisations etc.?)
What will your report show? Be specific [you should write this section last]
2.0 Discussion point 1: ……………………………… (300 words) [Use evidence/ research throughout]:
Identify one point from your area of focus and say why it is a key issue.
Describe how leaving the EU will impact on this
What are the opportunities it could create?
What are the possible problems?
What can you conclude from this? What are the implications?
3.0 Discussion point 2: ……………………………… (300 words) [Use evidence/ research throughout]:
Identify another point from your area of focus and say why it is a key issue.
Describe how leaving the EU will impact on this
What are the opportunities it could create?
What are the possible problems?
What can you conclude from this? What are the implications?
4.0 Conclusion (150 words) [refer back to key evidence/ research]
Give a summary of your key points from 2 & 3
Include a summary of your key conclusions from both 2 & 3

Week 3: Written analysis of Data
Analysing data
Based on the graph looked at in the tutorial, first discuss, and then plan how to write an analytical
paragraph about your graph. You might want to include the following information:
1. A description your data (What is it? Where does it come from? What area is it focussing on?):
2. A summary on what the data shows in general
3. One or two areas of the data looked at in detail and an explanation of why you think they are
significant
4. The important trends and differences/comparisons in the areas you have chosen
5. Possible explanations for what the data is showing (remember to reference wider research to
back your ideas up)
6. A recommendation for further action that could arise from this data.
Individually write your data analysis as a paragraph (approx. 300 words). Remember to refer to the
graph/chart using correct OSCOLA or Harvard style in-text citation.
1. The data in the graph will highlight the impact and significance of Brexit on the market attractiveness of
United Kingdom. The data has been collected from the primary collection method and closed ended
questionnaire has been used. A simple random sampling has been used to choose the population sample so
that accurate data can be collected.
2. The data in the graph is trying the indentify the impact of Brexit on UK’s overall attractiveness. There are
five parameters in the questions which identifies whether there is positive , negative or impact on the market
attractiveness. Thus, the questions is trying to identify the degree and nature of relationship between the two
variables that has been mentioned.
3. The findings from the graph show that the different geographical zones have different opinion about UK’s
exit from European Union. The population in Europe are of the opinion that there will huge negative impact of
Brexit because the trade will decline.
4. However, this does not influence the other counties in different continents to such an extent. The
commonwealth countries feel that there is positive impact due to possibility of improved trade relations with
United Kingdom. Thus, on the global context, Brexit will have positive impact on overall market attractiveness.
5. Thus, it can be analyzed from the findings that trade relationship with the European countries will be
affected due to it is exit. 36% of the population sample are of the opinion there will be negative impact where
as rest of G20 and commonwealth countries have a different opinion where there will be positive impact.
However, there is huge majority that feels there will no impact on market attractiveness.

version 1.0 8

Thus, it is recommended that United Kingdom will have to develop trade relationship with commonwealth
countries as they find the UK market attractive.
Therefore, it can be recommended that the issues relating to the impact of Brexit on globalization has been
rejected is not true as this was only the view of the unemployed college students. Therefore, it can be said that
the EU will depend on policies will depend on the policies the UK will adopt following the Brexit.

In-text citation or OSCOLA footnote (Law): (Theguardian.com 2017)
Key ideas:
Rejection of globalization
Failure of EU to carry out its responsibility
Individually: write up a paragraph which synthesises (combines) the ideas you talked about with your study
group. Remember to include in-text citationsor OSCOLA footnote (Law) and link your ideas using linking
words! (Suggested word count: 200 words).
In the three texts, the authors have talked about three different topics. However, the journal and the
newspaper article highlighted the implications of Brexit, the book mainly discussed organizational
management from the perspective of quality management. Brexit had immediate effect on UK’s economy and
gradually the effects were visible in countries. The impact was not only economic but political as well
(Cumming and Zahra 2016). It is obvious from the discussion that Brexit did have an impact on globalization
and it remains to be seen what further impact it would have when Britain officially exits EU in 2019. Brexit, as
mentioned by Larry Elliot in the article, not only affected the global economy, it rejected the very notion
(Theguardian.com 2017). The EU was seen as a supreme example of globalization but its failure to provide
promised economic backup to the citizens resulted in its rejection. The book however is not about Brexit or
economy in general; it is about the style and type of management seen in organizations. In addition, it
compares the traditional and contemporary views of quality management (Goetsch and Davis 2014). The three
texts provide an overall view on various issues related to business and organization and the interrelatedness of
world economies.

Title: Impact of Brexit on Globalization and Organizational Management
Introduction
The day of 23 June 2016 has entered the pages of history for the people of United Kingdom in
particular and the world in general. On that day, the people of UK decided to end a long-standing partnership
Britain had with the European Union. More than half of the population voted for Leave EU that resulted in
Brexit (Hartmann and Leug 2017). While many believed the exit would have negative effect on Britain’s
economy, the majority felt that leaving EU would boost the economy.
The Brexit, apart from having immediate effect on Britain’s economy, also affected businesses across
Europe. The GBP fell to its lowest to dollars in three decades standing at 1.3 a day after the referendum. In
particular, corporations and organizations faced huge crisis and confusion as to what their future would be.
The report analyses the impact of Brexit on globalization and organizational management.
Impact on globalization
In order to understand the impact Brexit had on globalization, the term has to be explained first.
Globalization in general refers to the increasing exchange of cultural, political and economic ideas between
nations. Hirst, Thompson and Bromley (2015) have defined globalization as the dissolving of national and
international boundaries. They further augment the fact that no decision in the present day, by the rulers of a
nation can be devoid from the global impact. Globalization is further categorized into other dimensions
including economic.
It is thus evident from the explanation that any decision or event concerning any nation would have a direct or
indirect global impact. Drawing attention to Brexit, it did have visible global impact that cannot be denied.
According to reports published in many leading English dailies, the Brexit gave a dent to the very concept of
globalization (Theguardian.com 2017). Prior to it, Britain was a part of the EU that meant citizens from all
European countries had free license to trade and establish business in the country and vice versa. Many
economists have argued that the people who voted for leave were more against globalization than the EU.
One prime reason for this opposition to globalization was the economic sloth that confronted the Britons in

They further augment the fact that no decision in the present day, by the rulers of a

indirect global impact.
One prime reason for this opposition to globalization was the economic sloth that confronted the Britons in
version 1.0 20

the last few decades. Unemployment, stagnant economic growth and increased cases of immigrants taking
over prospective jobs led to the frustration and consequently the referendum result of 23 June.
Globalization, although had been impacted by the referendum result, it cannot be said to cease or lose
significance. Globalization will prosper no matter what decision governments or people make. Moreover, the
Brexit has given the government and the people to mend previous mistakes and consider the economic well-
being of its deprived citizens (Time.com 2017).
The two-year consolidation period ends on 31 March 2019, when Britain will officially exit the
European Union. It remains to be seen whether the final exit would further affect the global economy or not
and in what way.
Impact on organizational management
Businesses help boost a country’s economy greatly and any change in the economic policies inversely
have an effect on businesses. It thus becomes essential for governments to consider the implications prior to
taking any decisions. Britain’s decision to divorce the European Union has left many businesses operating in
the UK in shock. Among the many concerns, companies are facing uncertainty as to what implications will
Brexit have on them when it officially happens. In this precarious time, it is imperative for organizations to
prepare for the ultimate day (Cumming and Zahra 2016).
Companies who have employees belonging to European nations other than Britain are in a complex
situation regarding the future of those employees. Sectors like health care, aviation, manufacturing, hotels and
many others are heavily dependent on staff coming from EU nations (Goetsch and Davis 2014). However, the
corporate world in Britain is divided over this issue where some leaders believe the Brexit will not have much
impact whereas others feel the opposite.
Organizations are however, moving ahead from the referendum results and focusing on planning new
strategies to tackle the negative effects of Brexit. To assess the effect of Brexit on organizational management,
one has to comprehend the functioning of organizational management. It is the management style followed by
small businesses. This style allows the managers to subdivide the larger organization into different
departments for effective management (Pinder 2014). In Britain too, numerous small businesses operate and
flourish. The Brexit has dented this smooth flow of operations and managers are now looking for ways to
implement new plans and strategies to get past this phase. Many issues other than uncertainty confront
organizations in UK that are likely to be affected by the result (Dhingra and Sampson 2016). These include
policies related to regulation, Foreign Direct Investment, tax and fiscal, labor market, trade and supply chain
management and so on.
Conclusion
In the end, it can be stated that the impact of Brexit on UK’s, Europe’s and global economy is yet to be
fully analyzed. One cannot conclude that it had positive or negative effect in such short period; one can only
predict its long-term implications. However, it can be said that Britain’s decision to separate from EU has left
other EU nations in a vulnerable position. The report has discussed the referendum result of 23 June
elaborately giving insights into the issue with references from notable economists and experts. Brexit’s impact
on globalization and organizational management has been mentioned in the report with proper examples and
explanations. Citizens of UK, while voting for Leave, have negated or rejected the very concept of

I was assigned by my teacher to work on a project based on UK’s exit from the European Union working in a
group of four. My first thoughts when the project was announced were whether I would be able to work in a
group or not. I was reluctant to work in-group, as I am an introvert and hardly talk to people. In the group of
four, I was assigned the task to write the entire report on the given issue. All the members of the group took
the decision unanimously when they discovered my academic writing skills. After the post-presentation, I
discovered that I needed to work on many things and improve. Most importantly, I have to improve my
speaking skills as I struggled while presenting my part of the presentation. I was nervous and stammered a lot.
I developed one important academic skill and that was structuring a report as per concise and proper format. I
am a good writer and possess good academic skills but I lacked knowledge of formatting. I learned through this
project that a good academic report involves not only grammatical error-free writing but also a well-structured
writing. In academic writing, it is very important to carry out extensive research and outline the results in a
draft at first. This helps us to structure our report properly. I was able to do research thoroughly and gather
important information; however, because I did not outline them correctly, the structure of my report lacked
concreteness. I have to work harder upon this aspect in future when I get the opportunity. I look forward to
work on similar assignments in future and apply the skills I have learned. I have also enjoyed my experience of
working in group and learned many things about group dynamics.
