Portfolio on Student Support Services
At Waltham International College, the support services for students have been extremely well
developed where they have access to a variety of services that can be used by the students in
order to enhance their overall experience of learning in the college. The various support services
available at WIC include:
Information Technology: The information technology is well implemented and integrated in the
WIC where the classes are conducted through e- mode, there are video and online lectures,
assignments can be submitted through electronic modes and every student is connected through a
common online platform of College (Dattan and Talukdar, 2017). This helps the students in
enhancing the learning experience by easy access to the required study material and also the e-
library of the campus helps in seamless education at any odd hour of the day. The increased
technological integration has also eased out the process of learning amongst the university
students and they are able to undertake studies as per their flexibility.
Attendance: Attendance can also be categorized as a main activity rather than a support activity
because it marks the presence of the students. In the present context however, as a support
service, it can be said that at WIC, the attendance can be marked through online portals, through
the biometric systems, in a physical manner where teachers manually take attendances or even
through punch in cards. These systems increase the flexibility of the students and also increases
the monitoring of the actual presence of the students thus discouraging the culture of proxy at
WIC. Therefore, it can be evaluated that the aspect of attendance as a support service is
extremely well integrated.
Reception: Reception is the welcoming and waiting area for WIC where the visitors can place
their query that is bound to be addressed at any time. Reception contributes as a support service
because it is the most effective part in easing the process of settling in the college especially for
new students at WIC. Reception also helps in providing other routine timetables, stationary or in
setting up meeting and appointments between the school staff and different parties such as
parents, candidates for recruitment etc. (DuPaul and et.al., 2017). Development of proper
schedules by reception help in the better management of the different aspects associated with
WIC thus contributing effectively.

Integrated Planning and Advising Services (IPAS): This is the best support service that directly
contributes in the development of the student as a whole and it leads to the shared ownership
where students, teachers, principal or dean and parents are all integrated and connected on a
singular panel. Therefore, it can be said that the sharing of holistic and comprehensive
information on a single interactive platform where assistance and guidance from teachers can be
taken at any hour of need is a major contributor in the success of the student. Additionally, the
integration and implementation of the systems at IPAS, the assessment and evaluation of the
systems and the benchmarking technique increases the quality of entire process of imparting
education.
Students Finance Application: In WIC, there are a variety of students that are enrolled who are
well developed on the intellectual aspect and also have the desire to continue their education as
far as possible (Brown, 2017). Such students often seek financial assistance as they are not able
to support their own education in the financial context. At WIC, these students are given the
financial assistance thus supporting them in their educational venture and this is done only when
the requesting student is found to be worth investing. Therefore, this acts as a major support
service for the WIC students and empowers the entire college where they understand the need of
developing everyone collectively.
Reflection
At WIC, my peers can also access certain support services that are available to me. The
peers belonging to the same college have all the support services available to them like they are
available to me but those peers who are not belonging to the same university cannot access all of
the support services that are available to us. For instance, the online educational lectures can be
attended by any of them as and when they want along with the library of the college that is
extensive by paying a premium fee amount and they can utilise the benefits of reception as well
but when it comes to financial assistance or the enrolment in IAPS, then these support services
cannot be easily accessed. As per view various services are WIC to empower level of education
of students has provided various extra facilities so that they can improve their knowledge and
skill. I have uses almost every facilities provided in WIC campus such as information
technology, student finance application and integrated planning and Advising services. It helps in
quick and fast learning of various information as information technology is used such as online
lectures, videos etc. Such information technology helps in retaining and understanding

information in minds of students quickly and effectively. I was very satisfied and happy with the
technologies used by WIC for increasing learning power of different students. Another facilities
that are provided by WIC college is biometric system to records attendance of students that helps
in maintaining accurate data and information regarding students. So as per my view it provides
ease to teacher in maintaining appropriate records of number of students present in college and
number of absent. At the same time students learn to manage time and attend class thus chances
of prosy increases otherwise it may lead to conflict and confusion among people. New student
can easily introduce to environment of college as there is receptionist that guide and introduce
them about college and various facilities provide by it to students. Extra support facilities such
as stationary and time table helps in me in easy access to all things that I need to learn and
enhance my knowledge (Ryan, 2018). Management of WIC was also extraordinary as per my
opinion as I can easily know about exam, syllabus and various facilities available within WIC
college. More services such as Integrated Planning and Advising Services helps in encouraging
not only views of staff member but students. It helps in bringing unity among students and staff
so I get confidence to asking various question and advice new things that can help college in
appropriate use of opportunities. Teacher guidance provide to me helps in my career growth and
development not in my personal life but also in my profession or career. Teacher by evaluating
my performance and informing me about my weakness helps me in making changes and growth
and develop my personality. College by proving me finance assistance helps a lot in success in
my career life as without their help I would not able to achieve higher growth in my life. WIC
has play an important role in improving my personal and making me a successful person in my
professional life. At the same time it helps many of the student that have capabilities but whose
their parents cannot afford to make their student study in such a university. Therefore, such a
extra facilities provide by WIC plays a important part in encouraging lot of student to come and
enhanced their knowledge and skill and become successful in life (Ramsey, 2018). As per my
view WIC has to improve or add more facilities so that students can easily enhances their
knowledge and learning power for growth in future career. Such as proper and effective WI-FI
connection so that they can easily connect with each other without any network issues. Reception
area infrastructure should be improved and it space should be increased so that new students and
various other people that came to campus can easily sit . More innovative technology can also
be used for taking attendance of students and evaluates performance so that they can be aware of

their mistakes and the way they can improve. Lecture of teacher can be explained through use of
social media as it helps in quick learning of students and retention of information for large period
of time. Continuous guidance should be provided by highly educated and knowledge teacher as
helps in improving students personality at every stage. Yes, support facilities provided by WIC
can be used by each and every students studying in the college to enhance their learning about
particular subjects. Most of my friends has used finance assistance facilities in order to study
higher within WIC and many of them cam to know about the student and its facilities which was
well- explained by the receptionist of WIC college (Ciolino, 2016). Thus, most of them joined
the college with me whereas other not joined because of their personal issue. Therefore, as per
my view various support facilities offered by WIC helps attracting large number of students to
come and increase their knowledge. Support facilities also provide ease and comfort to students
as well as teacher to learn new thing from environment and facilities provided by WIC.
