Introduction
Leadership and management are the terms which are often used as synonyms in an
organisation. However it is necessary to understand that leadership is still included in
management. Being a crucial component in management and leadership behaviour focuses on
building an environment in the organisation so that every employee can develop and excel in
their skill and abilities (Marques and Gomes, 2020). It also prefers to put potentially good efforts
towards accomplishment of a new subject is in goals. It is often seen that influencer uses a
number of formal sources which also provides them managerial position in business.
Main Body
Leadership
Leadership was a word people started using 30 years ago. There are various authors such as
Joseph Kottet, Peter Drucker and Warren Bennis who introduced the differentiation between
various roles of managers and leaders in 90s. Leadership and management in an organisation or
going hand-in-hand. However they are not same but they are very closely linked and
complimentary to each other. If an organisation tries to separate both of them this can cause
problems in organisation. A manager‘s job is to plan, coordinate and organise whereas job of a
leader is to inspire and motivate individuals in an organisation.
Difference between managers and leaders
According to Warren Bennis “On becoming leader” in 1989 have listed various differences
between managers and leaders which include that a manager is an investigator where is leader is
an innovator. Author also explains that Manager maintains whereas a leader is responsible for
development. The major focus of Manager is on all systems and structure and the leader focuses
on people and individuals in an organisation. Manager focuses on short-term targets whereas
leaders are focusing on long-term perspective. The manager imitates whereas the letter is
responsible to originate. These are various differences brought in by Warren Bennis through his
book.
There were also three distinct levels made for leaders as well as managers which explained
their roles in organisation. These three distinctions included direction, alignment and
relationship. A leader is responsible to direct employs by keeping an eye on the horizon and also
creating various vision and strategy is for them (Hallinger, 2020). In order to bring in alignment
