Introduction to Yard of Ale
Yard of Ale is a large-scale brewery in Sri Lanka and well establish company control 20%
market share of beer market which is the 2nd biggest market share from entire beer market.
The company have automated production line include mills, Brewhouse and bottling plant.
The company consists of multiple departments responsible for each operation of the
organization such as Production, Engineering, HR/Legal, finance, Sales and marketing,
Procurement, Administration, Quality control, Research and development, IT

Business intelligence is a technology-driven process for analyzing data and delivering
actionable information that helps executives, managers and employees make informed
business decisions. As part of the BI process, organizations collect data from internal IT
systems and external sources, prepare it for analysis, query the data, and create data
visualizations, BI dashboards, and reports to make the analysis results available to business
users for operational decisions. making and strategic planning. The ultimate goal of BI
initiatives is to make better business decisions that help organizations increase revenue,
improve operational efficiency, and gain competitive advantages over business rivals. To
achieve that goal, BI includes a combination of analytics, data management, and reporting
tools, plus various methods of managing and analyzing data.(techtarget, 2021)
Importance of Business Intelligence
Business Intelligence converts data into useful information.
Raw data doesn't just tell us what to do in business. BI systems enable comprehensive analysis
of data to identify key trends that can be used to adjust or implement strategic plans and to
understand the interrelationships between different functions and facets of business. BI
improves the insight into consumer behavior. With BI analytics global, regional, and local

consumption patterns can be tracked to better understand current trends. This, in turn, enables
you to develop and deliver products and services that respond to the needs of the market.
Improved visibility
Business Intelligent organizations have better control over their processes and standard
operating procedures, because the visibility of these functions is enhanced by a Business
Intelligence system. Business Intelligence illuminates all areas of your organization, helps you
easily identify areas for improvement and allows you to be prepared instead of reactive.
Actionable Information
An effective Business Intelligence system will identify key organizational trends and patterns.
BI system also enables understanding the implications of various organizational processes and
changes so that the organization can make informed decisions and act on them accordingly.
Efficiency Improvements
BI systems help to improve organizational efficiency, productivity, and potentially increase
the revenue. BI systems allow companies to share important information between departments
easily and that it will save time on reporting, data extraction and data interpretation. So that
employees could focus on their work rather than worrying about sharing data.
Real-time data
With the use of business intelligence tools human errors and wait for reports from different
departments for the analysis will not occur. BI systems provide users with real-time access to
data through a variety of ways, including spreadsheets, visual dashboards, and scheduled
emails. Large quantities can be assimilated, interpreted and distributed quickly and accurately
using Business Intelligence tools.

Competitive Advantage
Business Intelligence can help to understand about the competitors and what they are doing so

Purpose of the report
Data and information are core to any organizational business process. Meaningful information
is a necessity to drive profitable business actions. The concept of Business Intelligence (BI)
has evolved through technologies such as Decision Support Systems (DSS) to a number of
tools, technologies, architectures and methods which involves data cleaning, data integration,
data mining, data evaluation and data representation. Hence BI can be identified as a software
suite of software and services to transform data into actionable intelligence and knowledge.
Yard of Ale is a leading beer company in Sri Lanka and it is the second biggest market share
in the beer market. The management of the company wants it to be the number one on the
market. Currently the organization does not use any business intelligence tools. And by
implementing business intelligence Yard of Ale can achieve their goal of being the number on
the beer market. The purpose of this report is to analyse the business intelligent tools available
and choose the best business intelligence tool and implement a business implement system
according to the requirements of the company. And it will lead the way for Yard of Ale to
control bigger market share and effectively become number 1 beer in Sri Lanka.

Business process is a collection of related, structured activities or tasks by people or
equipment in which a specific sequence produces a service or product (serves a particular
business purpose) for a particular customer or customers. Business processes take place at all
organizational levels and may or may not be visible to the customers.
Types of Business Processes
Operating Process
These are the main functions of the company. These processes are directly related to the
company's fundamental values, vision and mission. They are also called primary processes.
You should pay extra attention to these processes as they are the company's primary revenue
streams. It is essential to fill the gaps and make the necessary improvements in these
processes. Once you have completed the evaluation of these processes, it will have a direct
impact on the growth of your business.

Management Process
The processes that plan, organize, coordinate and control all business functions fall under
process management. These processes are goal-oriented. It includes helping and motivating
your team to achieve their goals. These processes also give direction to the further growth of
your company.

 teaching employees how to perform a task effectively
 Scheduling a meeting by the manager
Supporting Process
These are the processes that are not directly related to the delivery of the service or product to
the customer. But they help the business create an environment where primary processes can
work better. That's where the name "supporting process" comes from. These are the processes
under the accounting department, the human resources department and any other department
that supports the main functions of the company.
