Slave labour
It is found that Chinese are undertaking the production of jeans in factory by the forced
labour and slavery of child and girl labour. This moved to impose the action of Chinese in the
Xinjiang region by the UK has urged the Australian government to tighten anti-slavery laws in
order to prevent any product entering the country that has been produced through slave labour.
As the Australian laws leaves the door open for the international supply chain for importing the
products made by slave or forced labours (Benstead, Hendry and Stevenson, 2020) . The
following are different arguments that an Australian government can adopt to prevent the import
of products made by forced labours. The arguments are: The first argument by ACTU and human
rights that take the leading call to reform the Australia's modern slavery act as it is weak because
it applies to only businesses that have annual revenue more than $ 100m and also it does not
impose any financial penalties. Secondly It is suggested to the Australian government to
absolutely put more restrictions and safeguards for the place of import and export in order to
protect the country from been part of the slavery and forced labour products and services like
China's Xinjiang region. The Australian government should also ask the firms to clean up there
misconduct over the supply chains and clearly state the steps that are been taken to address the
modern slavery in the supply chains and operations also published them in their annual
statements. Further argument states that a Australia government is required to take is to create a
legal framework which requires the organisations of the certain size to provide the public annual
report on the method of their supply chains and the measures that organisations are taking to
avoid any human trafficking or slavery in the production and the import or export of the goods or
services that are coming from outside the countries must include the incorporation of the
transparency in the supply chain (Winterdyk, 2020). There should be the proper identification
and remediation of the firms that are entering their products in the Australia and argument
suggested that there must a strict penalties and abandonment of the firms indulged in the import
and supply chain of goods and services that are been made by slave labours. Hence, this
argument will prevent the Australia from entering of product that has been produced by the
forced labour.
