INTRODUCTION
Medication of administration is concerned with procedure through which medication
given to patient is administrated. This involve that right medication is given to right patient and
right dose is given to patient and at right time. This study will discuss about how to administer
medication as a second-year student under supervision with a registered nurse in clinical setting.
MAIN BODY
Administration of medication as a second-year nurse is done under supervision of
registered nurse. However a second year student might not administer any IV medication without
supervision. Second year student requires to administer medication as per the instructions of
registered nurse and there are certain rules and principles that should be considered by second-
year students when are administering medication (Hayes and et.al., 2017, P. 4839-4847). Rules
that second year students should consider during medication administration include safety,
uncertainty and need for validation, lessons learned and clinical reasoning.
Safety is most important part of medication administration in which it is very important
that second-year students need to consider. This means that it is firstly ensured by student that
medication being given to patient is completely safe and there is no side effect other than what is
exception in case of patient. This means there are certain general side-effects that patient might
experience as a result of medication. Uncertainty and need for validation is also important
because in this, it is considered that any uncertain situation can arise in relation with medical
condition of patient and as a result, their medication should be validated from the registered
nurse before giving them to patients. Lesson learned is also a rule that second year student
should consider in which it is important that second year students learn about lesson from
different situations they experience during administration of medication for patients. Clinical
reasoning is also a rule that should be considered by second year students during medication
administration under supervision of registered nurse (Alteren and et.al., 2018, P. 3613-3621).
Clinical reasoning involves identifying what are the reasons because of which patient is being
given certain medication.
