PART I: Information Collection
In order to ensure that the design of the network is effective and also consistent with design
requirements, it is important to gather design requirements. Here the aim of the project is to redesign
an existing network that Barranquilla Plaza Hotel already installed for executing their business process.
However, with issues in the network design and to enhance the business process, Barranquilla Plaza
Hotel wants to replace their existing network infrastructure for enhancing their business process as the
network design that Barranquilla Plaza Hotel has various issues as described by Barranquilla Plaza Hotel.
Hence the aim of this design is to bring complete improvement to the network infrastructure through
appropriate design methods and design process.
Questionnaires for Users
Is wifi signal is proper and does it provide full coverage to room area?
Is there any issue of buffering that users have encountered while they are playing videos online?
Is there any issue such as call drop while doing voice or video call and if so is it frequent or
occasional?
Is downloading content from online is consistent or does it often failed due to error in the
network?
Does not network provide facility to share files to other devices which are connected to the
network through the wireless connection?
Are the network devices that are connected with the network for providing wireless connection
to the hotel room of latest edition?
Are the hardware and software considered for designing wireless network are of latest edition?

What are average number of users that requires access to the network design in a single
instance?

How much bandwidth is required for executing network related services that each of the hotel
departments needs to manage for ensuring effective execution of business process?
Purpose of the Questionnaires
In order to ensure that the modification in the design is efficient in resolving issues, it is required
to gather information regarding challenges that the organization recently have with their network
infrastructure. hence to gather information about challenges for Barranquilla Plaza Hotel, a set of
questionnaires are designed and this is distributed to the different groups of users selected from users,
management and IT staffs of Barranquilla Plaza Hotel and asked them to provide their feedback by
analyzing those questions. This will provide a comprehensive overview about the issues and challenges
and this will help in defining scope of the redesigning project in reference to the existing network design
of Barranquilla Plaza Hotel. In order to improve the network design and increase its efficiency, it is
required to bring improvement in area wise and hence it is important to identify the requirement of the
user and identify the performance of current network and identify each coverage area [4]. The
application profile is created based on the questionnaires and this will help in keep track of network
speed and performance with accurate statistics. Not only will it provide an enhanced control over the
network, but also resolve network related issues with greater efficiency.
Validation and Verification plan
The data that is gathered from the user with the help of the above questionnaires can be
validated by reviewing the items and in terms of grammar and sentence construction. It should also be
reviewed that the content does not have biased or offensive words that can affect the subgroup and
respondents. A preliminary pilot testing is needed to be carried out for performing the test on the
questionnaire item and eliminate the confusion about any item. The questionnaire item is also needed

to be linked with the project and a repetition of the process is needed to be performed before finalizing
the drafty of the questionnaire [6]. The verification and validation helps to redesign the network solution
and performing a detailed analysis on the issues and challenges mentioned by the users. Identification of
the reason for users not being satisfied with the network services provides an accurate description of
redesign scope and thus brining improvement to the network design and make it consistent with user
requirements and their expectations as well. The current floor plan considered for exiting network
design has been assessed as well for deciding number of access point that might be required for new
network design and offer full access to the network service to the rooms of hotel [3]. The existing
network framework that is to be replaced is analyzed as well as it is required to design new and
improved network solution while incorporating some of the features from the existing network solution
that Barranquilla Plaza Hotel in Colombia already have for executing their network related services and
applications.
PART II: Network Redesign and Documentation
Although it is required to communicate with the staffs and users of the network about the
analysis of the network resources, if there are any issues in communication, the required device and
network resources necessary for the redesign will be considered in the project. Measurement on the
network coverage area will be conducted as well for identifying areas that will be connected through the
wireless access point while measuring cable length for installation of access point in the network
infrastructure [5]. Estimation on cable length and coverage area will provide an estimation for cost as
well thus providing assistance in overall cost estimation as well. The success of the project is dependent
on both resources and cost estimation and hence accuracy in both of these aspects are required for
overall project success. Cost is an important aspect of this network design. While improvement in
performance is required, it is also important to keep the cost as minimum as possible without
compromising in the performance [2]. Hence cost analysis and cost estimation needs to be perfect for
better cost optimization. Cost estimation includes cost for network devices, hardware and software
required for executing the network design.
This application profile will also help in sharing VLAN information between devices while
providing assistance in configuring VTY server for sharing client information. Configuring network
switches with the VTP server ensures that multiple configuration of various switches in the network is
not required [7]. Application profile also provides accurate information regarding service demand and
provide details such as which service has more demand, which service requires better speed and which

service needs to be improved [1]. This will help in allocation of network bandwidth according to service
requirement and therefore minimizing wastage of network bandwidth.
Before selecting device for the network design, standard performance metrics and compliance
metrics is done so that there is no performance related issues due to non-compliance of device with the
network design and thus ensuring an optimum performance from the network. While designing the new
infrastructure for the network solution, concept of redundant link is also considered which will ensure
that data packets are sent to the destination device faster without compromising in accuracy of data
transfer over the network [8].

process of the hotel:
