A program can be defined as the group of the similar or related projects those
are being managed in an efficient and effective manner. Program management
can be represented as the centralized coordinated management of the program
that can be utilized for achieving the strategic objectives and goals of the
project. A project management should be concentrating on managing the
interdependent and interrelated projects considering it as the group in manner
to achieve the desired result.
Some of the advantageous factors can be listed as:
 Optimal utilization of resources
 Less conflict among projects
 Better communication and coordination among projects
 Resource constraints are minimized
 Improves organization’s performance
Project management is the management of singular project however; program
management emphasizes on managing the similar and related projects.
Portfolio management has a wider objective and scope as compared to that of
the program management in which a centralized management has been
established for the management of identify, prioritize, and authorize the
projects or programs. It is capable of managing and controlling the programs or
project in manner to effectively and efficiently achieve the strategic goals and
objectives of the project.
Portfolio management I an advanced extension of the program management as
it deals with the projects those are not similar in nature.
