On behalf of the mental health nursing community, I am writing to thank you for passing the
Senate Bill S3766 which deals with providing a legal service for mental hygiene to certain
residents or patients who are admitted to facilities of residential healthcare (NY State Senate
Bill S3766, 2019).
This bill gives mental wellbeing advocacy providers with the power to offer legal aid to
inmates or occupants in residential health care institutions, including nursing care homes that
have been discharged immediately from a medical institution or psychiatric hospital and have
a significant mental disorder for which they seek treatment due to their disorder.
Individuals with disabilities of mental health consistently face battles of legality in court to
look after lodging, secure a sufficient pay, and get and keep up government advantages to
which they are entitled. These battles for legality in court are stressors that can eventually
prompt weakening of emotional well-being, homelessness and hospitalization (Schulz et al.,
2015). By furnishing legal assistance to civilians, like adults with psychological wellness
inabilities, this Bill remains as a defense against emergency – loss of pay, homelessness and
loss of social liberties so they can keep up dependability inside their chosen network.
It is through individual advocacy, litigation, education in communities and coordination with
makers of policy, it is our obligation to work to address the absence of network based private
and outpatient mental well-being administrations with individuals with dysfunctional
behavior (Reisner et al., 2015). They additionally advocate both foundationally and
exclusively, to address misuse, disregard and poor conditions in offices and projects serving
individuals with psychological sickness.
