Australian foreign policy
Australia has been working on numerous foreign policy storylines over the 20th century.
Australian foreign relations are affected by its position as the leading trading country and as the
important donor of humanitarian aid (Park & Yoo, 2015). The foreign policy of Australia is
controlled by the commitment towards the multilateralism and the regionalism, in addition to
robust bilateral relationships with its allies. The important concerns of its foreign policy include
free trade, terrorism, refugees, financial co-operation with different countries like New Zealand,
United States, and other Asian nations. Australia has dedicated specific attention to its relations
between the developed and developing countries (Clarke, 2017). In this particular essay, the need
for Australia to have an alliance with the US will be discussed.
Need of US-Australia Alliances
Australia is a vital supporter, and friend of the United States. Both the countries maintain
the strong relationship underpinned through mutual democratic value, shared interest, and
cultural similarities. The Unites States-Australia association is an anchor for harmony and constancy
in the Indo-Pacific area and around the globe. The bilateral security collaboration activities between
U.S. and Australian improve the steadiness and resiliency of the Indo-Pacific area (Sharma, 2017).
Both nations share a robust interest in upholding freedom of steering and over aircraft and other legal
uses of the ocean, counting in the South China Ocean. They also work closely in the Afghanistan and
Iraq, and collaborate on determinations to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and deal
with the challenges and counter distant terrorist fighters and intense extremism. Another region of
close U.S.-Australia collaboration is the Arms control and counter rise. Along with AUSMIN

discussions, Australia and the United States involve in a trilateral safety discourse with Japan
(Camilleri, 2019).
There is a two different sides of U.S.-Australian alliances, some believes both the nations
must maintain their alliances in order to reduce security issues and enhance the trades and
economic growth, but some does not agree with the needs of this alliance an prefer China over
US for better relationships (Park & Yoo, 2015). There are close associations at all stages of
government between Australia and the United States. Australia and the United States function
closely with like-minded associates in local and global forums, counting the G20, East Asia
Conference, World Trade Organization and United Nations (O'Neill, 2016). The alliances with
US, Australia contributes to the regional security and delivers a balance to the china and other
possible hegemonic powers. The stability in the region took place due to the alliance, can protect
the line of communication for Australia. The alliances will also provide access to the Australians
to US intelligence, specifically technical abilities like satellite imaging (Tow, 2017).
The worth of the association is its protection of something that might seem imperceptible,
and yet however is vital to the security, wealth and values of both of the countries. Without a
suspicion that sounds abstract and can pose a challenge to its protectors, however a rules-based
order indicates that it is not usual raw power that controls results (Switzer, 2016). Guidelines as
the foundation for order, supported by the US power and its associates to endorse the rules, have
brought noticeable benefits that bear reiterating: stopping a great-power conflict; indorsing an
exposed and wealthy global economy; progressing democracy and humanoid rights; and combat
to defend a system where rules are respected, territorial honesty preserved, and political freedom
maintained. These objectives can only be attained with robust alliances (Kelton, 2016).
