Artificial Intelligence in Education

This article discusses the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education and its advantages and disadvantages. It highlights how AI can personalize learning and improve student performance by providing tailored learning programs based on individual needs. Introduction
Technology has become an integral part of our lives today. It has changed the way of doing daily
life activities of human and assisting people in everything from shopping to banking and from
learning to doing business. Innovation in information and technology has transformed every
aspect of society. Despite of this much innovation in ICT, education system is still lacking far
behind (Arkorful & Abaidoo, 2014). The major part of the world is still using traditional
methods of learning and teaching. Due to diversity and different levels of students in maturity
and learning styles, needs of every student vary from one another. One of the biggest advantages
of e-learning industry is that in addition of making learning processes simpler, it also helps in
removing the problems that become bigger due to human failure (Wenger, 2014). One of the
prime examples in this regard is the biasness of the teachers. It is generally seen that teachers are
biased in treating students and never gives the type of attention a particular type of student
requires. The weaker students are often not given as much attention as required which in the case
of AI is not possible.
Use of AI technologies can give large amount of benefits to not only students but it will also
provide advantage to the schooling process. This is understood by the fact that AI helps in
processing of data and produces a learning course that is according to that particular student.
Since the traditional teaching medium generally have a common methodology and approaches
for every student as teachers also do not have time to reach to each and every individual (Phobun
& Vicheanpanya, 2010). This data can be used further to increase the pedagogical training’s
efficiency through extensive personalization depending on the needs of individual student.
Student’s performance can be easily evaluated by the AI technology on the basis of the data
generated by student’s capability to answer the questions. The lectures are not only given by the
machines on the basis of what the curriculum suggests but it helps students to understand what
exactly they are lagging in and give lectures accordingly.
With the help of E-learning, more interactive media is produced in front of the students based on
their understanding power. This judgement of their understanding is hard to be done in the
traditional education system. The use of AI will give student an instant response to the things
they want to learn and the position they are in right now. This will also help in increasing the

attention of the students. Thorough training is provided to the students that are weaker in any
particular area (Woolf, Lane, Chaudhri & Kolodner, 2013). AI will reduce the problems of the
student’s hesitation which is one of the biggest problems in student, teacher communication and
hence many a time student is also unable to understand that particular topic. E-learning with the
help of AI can understand specific challenge that a student might be facing in understanding the
concept and hence might produce learning programmes accordingly and immediately.
